Fans were left unbelieving after a recent image of a former Chelsea star who looks very different from his Stamford Bridge days, went online viral.
The defender, 37, had two spells in Chelsea between 2011 and 2019 and won the Premier League, Champions League, two FA Cups and the Europa League twice with the club.
He came to Flamengo in 2021 and now plays for another Brazilian club, Fortaleza, after his transfer to be completed earlier this year.
David Luiz, who also spent two years at Arsenal, was famous for his Afro hairstyle while playing in England, but those days seem to have disappeared for a long time.
During the 2-1 defeat of Fortaleza by Palmeiras on Sunday, Luiz was depicted in action with his hair now much shorter and a visible bare plaster on the top of his head.
He will be 38 on Tuesday and supporters on social media suggested that his age finally overtaken because they were shocked by the transformation of Luiz.
“Is this real?” A bewildered fan asked.
“Damn, nobody is really safe,” another supporter has been added in addition to a broken heart -after seeing Luiz's Afro is a thing of the past.
One x user explained 'the game away' after seeing Luiz's current appearance, while another fan just asked 'How?'
Luiz, who earned 57 international caps for Brazil, still plays regularly after his return to his home country.
He has presented this season in all five Fortaleza competition matches this season.
His team has picked up five points so far and 13th in the top division of Brazil.
