Trent Alexander-Arnold does not have a contract with Liverpool this summer and is heavily connected to a move to Real Madrid but expert Clinton Morrison believes he can stay in Anfield
Clinton Morrison believes that the celebrations of Trent Alexander-Arnold against Leicester City show that he might not go anywhere after all this summer.
The 26-year-old entered the battle of the King Power Stadium on Sunday at the 71st minute as a straight swap for Conor Bradley, and made his mark only five minutes later with a pounding volley of his left foot. Alexander-Arnold then removed his shirt while he was fourth with traveling fans, while Liverpool walked 1-0 winners and brought himself a step closer to lifting a second Premier League title.
And while Alexander-Arnold is out of contract in Anfield this summer and strongly connected to a free transfer to Real Madrid, Sky Sports Pundit Morrison does not believe in such a way when he was definitely left of his boys' club. Morrison spoke on BBC Radio 5 Live: “If you leave a football club, I don't think you are celebrating like that.”
However, users of social media quickly disagree with the former Crystal Palace and Coventry Star, who used X to share their own view. One wrote: “Course you do”, while the other added: “says who? He gave everything Liverpool & the fans the poor boy. So what, leaves the boy alone and lets him enjoy his goal. He still gives everything despite the departure. Poor of Clinton.”
A third, meanwhile, of the opinion: “Yes, you would do that. You will not worry about where you are next season when you score a goal. A strange claim from an ex-pro.”
At the end of the season, Alexander-Arnold came to the Premier League campaign of 2024/25 Premier League as one of the three Liverpool-Trouwe opponents, which also interrogated Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all season.
Both Salah and Van Dijk, however, both put a pen on new two-year deals on Anfield earlier this month, while Alexander-Arnold still has to commit to the club after June. Alexander-Arnold also refused to comment on his future after the 1-0 victory of the Reds in Leicester and told Sky Sports: “I said the whole season that I am not going to talk about my situation.
“I'm not going into the details. But days like today are always special. Scoring goals, playing games, winning games, winning titles – they are special moments for me and I am happy to do my part.”
In the meantime, manager Arne Slot said about the talent of the Reds during his press conference on Friday: “Let's see what the future brings”, who also lips tightly on the prospect that Alexander-Arnold returned to the head in 2025/26. It is when Liverpool is at the distance of the Premier League title.
The Reds could have lifted the trophy on Sunday if Arsenal has been handed over to the city of Ipswich, only for the Mikel Arteta team to keep a foot in the door with a 4-0 thrashing from their opponents. The Gunners are confronted with further pressure in their own race for the title come on Wednesday evening, when they are opposed to Crystal Palace in the Emirates Stadium.
Everything that will see less than three points that they are unable to pursue Liverpool for the title. If Arsenal wins again, Liverpool can pick up the title on Sunday with a victory against Tottenham Hotspur.
