Championship manager is SACKED just months after making emotional return following cancer battle

A championship manager was fired just a few months after making an emotional return to the club.

The manager won only five of his 17 games that were in charge during his second spell.

After a 3-1 defeat at home on Monday, the club decided to fire him.

West Bromwich Albion has made the decision to participate in company with manager Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray was appointed West Brom manager in January with a contract of two and a half years.

Last year Mowbray, 61, fights with colon cancer and he is now on his way to recovery.

West Brom, who are in tenth place in the championship, lost 3-1 at home to Derby on Monday. They have lost five of their last six games.

Mowbray initially managed West Brom between 2006 and 2009, won the championship title in the 2007-08 campaign and earned promotion to the Premier League.

Former West Brom player James Morrison takes the lead until the end of the season and is supported by Damia Abella and former Baggies goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

A statement from West Brom on the club's official website was: 'West Bromwich Albion today has a separate company with head coach Tony Mowbray.

'Assistant head coach Mark Venus is also left the club.

'The club would like to thank Tony and Mark for their efforts – but has made the decision to participate in a series of bad results.

'Tony and Mark will be welcome forever at the Hawthorns and their contributions to the club that wins the Sky Bet Championship title 2007/08 will never be forgotten.

'Everyone at Albion wishes Tony and marks the very best in the future.

'James Morrison will supervise the first team matters on an interim basis, assisted by Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill.

“The process of recruiting a new head coach is now underway.”
