According to L'équipe, because Saint-Étienne could be dealing with a potential points deduction after a fan threw a projectile that struck an assistant referee during their match with Lyon in Ligue 1 on Sunday evening. On Wednesday, the LFP starts to investigate the incidents that took place during the last interpretation of the Derby du Rhône.
Saint-étienne finished on Sunday evening in a jovial vote after gaining their first victory against their local rivals since 2019. However, that vote could change after the actions of one fan. Towards the end of the first half, the game was suspended after one of the lines was hit by a projectile. The referee took all players and officials more than 40 minutes from the field after the incident.
Precedent shows that incidents of this size result in a point deduction. In 2021, Lyon was deducted for one point after a fan threw a water bottle that hit Dimitri Payet in the head. In addition to throwing a projectile, the LFP disciplinary committee will be forced to focus on the excessive use of torches before the competition, which resulted in a delayed kick-off.
