An incredibly new plan to replace the world -famous football stadium of Milan with burying underground has been unveiled.
The £ 1.5 billion scheme is supported by the Italian football giants AC Milan and Inter Milan, currently share the iconic San Siro site.
The new underground stadium was designed by architect Davide Bruno who presented the idea during the Il Foglio a San Siro event.
In the bizarre plan, a brand new football stadium would be built entirely below street level.
The stadium would replace the San Siro site and would be shared by the Italian Rivals Inter Milan and AC Milan.
The plan also includes the construction of luxury hotels and restaurants, as well as event rooms.
And that is not all – the stadium would have its own metro station and parking garage with several floors to make travel to and from the site as smooth as possible.
Although the players of Milan score goals underground, those who do not care about the sport can enjoy the new park above it.
Plans for the park are 20,000 trees, 500,000 flowers and more than 4 miles of slopes and pedestrian paths.
According to Bruno, the proposed project would take between 4-5 years to complete.
An AC Milan Fan account named Homeofmilan posted the news on Instagram and asked fans what they thought.
Fans clashed in the reactions with many who closed the idea as unrealistic, while others praised their creativity.
An angry Instagram user wrote: “I have seen many stupid things in my life. But this is one of the most stupid ideas I have seen.”
Another photo back: “Many people will hate this idea, but to be honest it is so cool and exactly what you would like for an urban development.”
Inter Milan and AC Milan had previously considered redeveloping the iconic SIRO stadium, but neither of the team considered the proposal to be viable.
The clubs also considered knocking it down to build a new stadium, but a local heritage committee found the site “cultural interest”, which means that it could not be demolished.
Officially known as the Giuseppe Meazza Stadio, the site has had AC Milan and Inter since 1927 from 1947.
If the plans for the new stadium continue, this will be the first football arena built in Italy since 2011.
In 2011, Juventus opened their 40,000-seaters Allianz Stadium in Turin.
