Diogo Dalot could miss the rest of the season with a calf muscle injury, Manchester United Head Coach Ruben Amorim has unveiled.
Dalot is one of United's most consistent artists and only missed seven games due to injuries since the beginning of 2021. Of the three games that the Portugal defender did not start this season, Dalot came from the bank twice and was suspended for the other.
But Amorim revealed that the former FC Porto player is confronted with a fight to play in the remaining five Premier League matches of United and the semi-final of the Europa League against Athletic Bilbao that starts on Thursday in Spain.
“Diogo Dalot is out,” he said. “We don't know how long he will be gone. But he is out for these next games. '
Asked if the 26-year-old could be out for the season, Amorim added: 'There is that possibility, but I don't know. We will check week after week because he works very hard. He can recover very well, we will see.
“He has something in his muscle, his calf. He had a series of games, he always played. We try to manage it, but the players play a lot of minutes and Dalot felt something. '
Amorim indicated that the Amad Diallo and Matthijs de Ligt are closer to fitness, although Ayden Heaven is still not ready after a setback in his recovery of an ankle injury.
He added: 'Amad is close by, Mattha is near, but the rest is at the same pace. Ayden is not ready, so that's it. '
