Former Arsenal star admits defeat in addiction battle as he urges other players to ‘NOT follow’ in his footsteps

Former Arsenal star Wojciech Szczesny has admitted to beat in his fight against an addiction.

The Polish keeper returned to football in October and signed for Barcelona as a free agent after an injury to NO1 in the long term, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

He has become a favorite with fans, where the Catalans have only tasted the defeat once in 25 performances in all competitions

Fans of Barcelona have regularly heard 'Szczny Fumador', which translates into 'Smoker Szczny', because of his smoking habits.

And the 35-year-old has urged others not to follow in his footsteps and tell ESPN: 'There are some parts of the game that I believe I can be a perfect example for young people or in fact for my teammates.

'And there are some things in my career that you should not follow. In some aspects I fail [being an example]But I try to be the best version of myself, and I try to give the right example to my teammates, to young children who look at us.

'But please state the subject of smoking, please do not follow me and don't do it. I lost the fight. When I was very young, I created a habit that is very negative to me, and I know it is. I just lose it. So for someone who looks: don't do what I did. '

Last October Szczesny doubled his smoking habits while he was standing on it: “It's no one else's business.”

In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, he said: 'There are things that I don't change in my personal life and it is no one of the matter if I smoke.

“I believe it doesn't affect what I do on the field, I work twice as hard.”

'I don't do it for children because I don't want a bad influence on them. Sometimes someone takes a picture of the trees where I have a cigarette, that is on them, not on me.

'If someone thinks I will change the way I am in my personal life, they can think again because I am who I am. I have been that way all my life. '

Szczesny landed famous in hot water after smoking in the dressing room of Arsenal after a loss of 2-0 for Southampton in 2015.

Later that year he left to the Gunners to get used to Roma for two years before he sealed a move to Juventus in 2017.

The veteran spent seven years in Turin and collected 252 performances for the club, won the Scudetto three times and three Coppa Italias.

Szczesny announced his retirement to last August, but returned to the sport only two months later to become a member of Barcelona.
