Bayern Munich icon Muller joins Bundesliga 500 club

The illustrious spell of Thomas Muller in Bayern Munich is perhaps in the last few weeks, but there are still orientation points for Germany to reach great.

And he joined an exclusive club on Saturday and made his 500th Bundesliga performance in Bayern's 3-0 win over Mainz.

He is only the 13th player who reaches that figure in the history of the competition, and the fourth who does this with all his performances for a single club – no other Bayern player had achieved the latter performance.

Here we go through the best facts and figures around Muller's 500 League outings for the Bavarian Giants.

Happy for some

Muller is the 13th player to put forward 500 Bundesliga performances, and with three games of the season, he could still surpass Stefan Reuter (502) to go on that list 12th.

Karl-Heinz Korbbel is at the top of the charts with 602-the only player who surpasses 600 with Manfred Kaltz (581), Oliver Kahn (557), Klaus Fichtel (552) and Miroslav Votava (546) the top five.

Muller's old Bayern teammate Manuel Neuer is eighth with 521 Bundesliga outlets, although 156 of them came with Schalke. Colleague keeping Great Kahn made 429 of his Bundesliga performances for Bayern, but his first 128 were for Karlsruher.

Muller is indeed the first player to reach 500 Bundesliga performances, all of them coming for Bayern, and only the fourth that this does for a single club.

Korbbel (602 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt), Kaltz (581 for Hamburg) and Michael Lameck (518 for Bochum) are the only other men of one club that touch the 55 marking.

Muller had already become Bayern's leading appearance maker last year and surpassed Sepp Maier's count of 473.

A large number of records

But Muller's legacy at Bayern goes deeper than the number of games he has played.

Bayern's victory over Mainz was their 360th with Muller who was involved in the Bundesliga – more victories than any other player has succeeded with the Bavarian Giants (Neuer is second with 277).

The 173 assists of Muller are the most by every player in the history of Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund -icon Marco Reus a distant second at 95.

Muller also has 150 goals to his name in the competition, making him Bayern's fourth scorer in the history of Bundesliga, behind Gerd Muller (365), Robert Lewandowski (238) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (162).

Since Muller made his Bundesliga debut in August 2008, he has combined 323 goals and assists.

That is more than any other player is managed for Bayern, and only Lewandowski (367) has more generally, where the pole also plays in the lead for Dortmund before joining Muller in Bavaria.

Make more history?

Muller's 25-year-old association with Bayern will soon end, with a trip to Hoffenheim on 17 May probably his Bundesliga separation.

He will then have one last chance to competitively represent Bayern at the Club World Cup, with the Vincent Kompany team that opposite Auckland City, Boca Juniors and Benfica is in the group stage of that competition.

Bayern won the previous iteration of the World Cup twice, and were allowed to lift the new trophy of the look in the United States this year, they will only be the third club that wins three times, after Barcelona and Real Madrid (the last to do this five times).

More urgent for Muller, however, will conquer his record-expanding 13th Bundesliga title.

Thomas Müller makes his 500th Bundesliga performance for FC Bayern Munich – he is the fourth player who reaches this Mark for a single club after Charly Körbel (602 for Frankfurt), Manfred Kaltz (581 for HSV) and Michael Lameck (518 for Boch). Milestone. @esmuellert_ pic.twitter.com/mjajqlmuob

No other player has hoisted the Meisterschale 12 times, with only Neuer (11), Lewandowski and David Alaba (both 10) also in double figures.

Bayern's victory over Mainz puts them on to get their crown back, with Bayer Leverkusen postponing their coronation by beating Augsburg elsewhere on Saturday.

A victory at RB Leipzig next week would seal the 34th German title of Bayern and ensure that Muller receives the broadcast he deserves.
