Real Madrid is confronted with the potential of several player bans after their sensational 3-2 Copa del Rey defeat against Barcelona.
While they marked in extra time past 120-minute, the frustration of Los Blancos cooked several times when their chance to force a penalty shootout slipped away.
Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea – who spent enormous pressure before the game – was the target of IRe of their bank after a series of late calls.
The last whistle brought Chaos to the Estadio La Cartuja when Lucas Vazquez and Vinicius Junior arrived on the field to protest against a decision against them, while Antonio Rudiger reportedly thrown an object to the civil servant.
While the dust settled after the game, Real Madrid waited for an update via the report of the referee -who has now landed -and rudiger could be banned for the rest of the campaign.
“In the 120th minute, Rudiger was sent for the following reason: before throwing an object from the technical area without reaching me. After shown the red card, he had to be stopped by different members of the technical staff,” the report said.
The RFEF will now look at it and decide, and despite the suspensions of Copa del Rey that are not normally performed in La Liga games, the severity of Rudiger's violation can mean that an exception is being applied.
The Burgos Bengoetxea also offered his reasons for sending Vazquez and the latter Jude Bellingham while he left the field.
“In the 120th minute, Vazquez was sent for the following reason: to protest against one of our decisions that came in several meters on the playing field, making gestures of disagreement.
“In the 120th minute, Bellingham was sent for the following reason: after the game was over, he approached officials in an aggressive way and had to be stopped by his teammates.”
Both Vazquez and Bellingham are expected to see them transferred to Copa del Rey of next season, but Rudiger could miss Real Madrid's La Liga collision with Barcelona on 11 May.
