Liverpool’s Premier League title win: Sensational Salah helps Slot get off to a flyer

The Premier League title race has long been done and sprinkled in reality, but Liverpool officially did the job on Sunday.

Opta's supercomputer gave Liverpool only a 5.5%chance of winning the Premier League at the start of the season, behind Manchester City (82.5%) and Arsenal (11.4%).

But with four games to be saved, the Reds are champions.

The early header of Dominic Solanke threatened to spoil the Anfield party on Sunday, but Liverpool laid down their foot and drove to a 5-1 victory on Tottenham, with Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo and scoring his own network before Destiny Udogie.

Liverpool has now won their 20th top-flight title, the English record of Manchester United together.

Here we dive into the OPTA data to assess the most important elements behind the second Premier League Title Tilt van Liverpool.

New competition, no problem

Slot won a trophy in two of his three seasons responsible for Feyenoord, and in one campaign in which he did not close silverware, he led the Dutch club to a European Conference League final.

So he had a good pedigree, but it was still a surprise to see that Liverpool turned to Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp, whose long farewell eventually saw the Reds fall short last season.

However, the Premier League has conquered the Premier League.

Liverpool has only lost two league matches this season. Their first defeat came home in Nottingham Forest in September, while their second on April 6 against Fulham came to Craven Cottage.

Even in that most recent defeat, the Reds were somewhat unhappy – they ended up with 14 shots, had six on goal (corresponding Fulham's count) and the generation of 1.5 expected goals (XG) to the 0.74 of their opponents.

Slot has an average of 2.41 points per game in the competition this season. About his 334 top matches that are in charge of Liverpool, Klopp had an average of 2.11 points per match.

Of course it is a much smaller sample size for lock than for Klopp, but it splits into individual seasons, he stacks extremely well against his predecessor.

In just three of his eight full seasons that were in charge, Klopp's Liverpool's average have more points per game Dan Reds so far this term-in 2021-22 (2.42), 2018-19 (2.55) and when winning the title in 2019-20 (2.60).

Klopp, however, also had to rise at the height of their forces against a Manchester City team. That was not the case for Slot this season, although that should certainly not take away from his performance.

Slot is the fifth Premier League boss who wins the title in his first season in the competition, without counting the inaugural campaign. He follows in the footsteps of Jose Mourinho (Chelsea, 2004-05), Carlo Ancelotti (Chelsea, 2009-10), Manuel Pellegrini (Man City, 2013-14) and Antonio Conte (Chelsea, 2016-17).

He is the first Dutch coach to win the trophy, and his team has been by far the most consistent artists this season.

Man City collapsed and the title challenge of Arsenal never really started. In the meantime, Liverpool has scored 80 goals – 14 free from any other team – from a competition -leading 75.5 xg.

No team has (136) or scored (53) as many great opportunities as the Reds scored.

Liverpool has been dominant because Slot left the heavy metal football from Klopp to a more controlled approach. Although three players in particular have been crucial.

Sensational Salah

There is not much to say about Salah anymore, so we will let his songs talk.

Salah has the most goals (28) and assists (18) in the Premier League this season, with his most recent strike in Sunday's title clinching on Spurs.

His total of 46 target statements This term is the most by every player in a 38-game campaign, which Thierry Henry's 2002-03 has surpassed 44 Trek by helping Diaz with a recent 2-1 win over West Ham.

And the general record of 47-man-made by Andy Cole (for Newcastle United in 1993-94) and Alan Shearer (for Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95) in 42-game Campaigns-Ligt in his grip with four games.

It would require something special in the final weeks of the campaign, but Salah could still claim the single-season records for both goals and assists in itself.

Erling Haaland's High of 36 goals for City in 2022-23 looks a big order, but the record of 20 assists (by Henry in 2002-03 and Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20) is one of the Egyptian supports to match at least.

It is no wonder that the Reds wanted to keep Salah, recently tied him to a new contract of two years after months of speculation about his future.

Van Dijk and Alisson take care of the rock

Salah was not the only player who was also desperate to bind Liverpool to new terms.

While Trent Alexander-Arnold is apparently on his way to Real Madrid, Virgil van Dijk continues to put a new contract to walk as long as Salah's.

Van Dijk has had this term the core of a Rock-Solid Reds-thoughtguard. Only Arsenal has admitted fewer goals (29) than Liverpool (32), with the Reds giving up the least expected goals against (28.94 XGA) of each team.

Only Arsenal has confronted fewer shots (318) than the 322 of Liverpool in the Premier League this period, and no side can match their 14 clean sheets.

Van Dijk is the only defender who plays all 34 league matches for Liverpool this period, and despite the fact that he will be 34 in July, he does not show any signs of delay.

Since he made his Liverpool debut in 2018, Van Dijk has made the second most approvals of a Premier League defender (1,005), with only James Tarkowski (1,438).

Only Tarkowski (1,818) has won more duels at that time among defenders in the upper light than Van Dijk (1,237), with the middle behind a role in 98 competition leaves-more than any other defender.

Van Dijk also scored 27 goals for Liverpool in all competitions, with the most recent one last winner against West Ham.

That is more goals than any other Premier League defender has scored in all competitions at the time, with Wolves' Matt Doherty Second out of 23.

Behind Van Dijk Alisson still has a great campaign between the sticks. Among all keepers to make this period at least 10 performances in the Premier League, the Brazilian is in fifth place for savings percentage and stops 72.22% of the shots with which he is confronted.

This season Alisson has held the most clean sheets in the division (nine) in the division, despite playing in just 24 games.

And according to the expected goals of Opta on Target (XGOT), Alisson Marginal has admitted fewer goals than expected, given the quality of the finishes with which he has dealt with (awarded 19 times with his own goals of 19.35 XGOT).

Alisson missed 10 league matches because of an injury this campaign, and although Caoimhin Kelleher is impressed by his deputy, the Reds missed their number one.

They have a profit percentage of 75% and average 0.8 goals per match with Alisson in their line-up in 2024-25, with those figures with 70% and 1.2 goals against without him.

Solid If a rock under a fascinating new coach, and with Salah that perhaps produces the best individual campaign in the Premier League history, this has been the year of Liverpool.
