Barcelona has drawn up several positions that they want to tackle this summer, and one of them is goalkeeper. They are expected to continue with Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny as their first team options for the 2025-26 campaign, but there is a wish that a successor will be signed, given that they are 32 and 35 respectively.
Barcelona has the will of other Astralaga and Diego Kochen in La Masia that they appreciate very high, but they also want someone who is more established and in particular challenging in states. And the player they have put on in recent months is just in the city that Joan Garcia is from Espanyol.
Garcia has been one of the best keepers in La Liga this season, and this has seen that Arsenal and Real Madrid register their interest for the summer. And Barcelona is another club that wants to sign him, although the fact that they are rivals with Espanyol would make it harder for them to get a deal.
Espanyol would be open to negotiation with other clubs, but with Barcelona their rivals are the chance that they would demand his release clause, which is currently at € 30 million. But according to Relo, this would not be a problem for the Catalan giants, who would ideally pay this amount, take out a deal.
The report states that Barcelona ideally would like to sign Garcia before he would borrow him to a European club at the highest level for the 2025-26 season. But in this position this possibility is not considered realistic because they do not have the funds available to sign a player who is not considered a priority.
As it looks now, Garcia is rather the chance to leave Spain this summer if he continues from Espanyol. And this would be bad news for Barcelona, because he would be an ideal player to take over from Ter Stegen and Szczesny in 2026.
