Competitiveness over tactics crucial in Juventus win, says Tudor

Igor Tudor said that Juventus' competitiveness mattered more than their tactical instructions after their crucial 2-0 win over Monza in Serz A on Sunday.

The first half goals from Nicolas Gonzalez and Randal Kolo Muani pushed Juventus, who had sent Kenan Yildiz, back to the fourth in the rankings.

Tudor was indeed the first Juventus coach who already won his first three home games with the club since Maurizio Sarri in 2020.

It was also their seventh victory in Allianz Stadium in 2025, a joint division the best besides Bologna. In the top five European competitions, only Barcelona (eight) have more.

Juventus offered the perfect response from their midweek -the defeat against Parma, so that their hope for ending in the Champions League places with four more games left.

“I always ask for that, because tactics and possession are fine, but in the end the one who wins is the one with more competitiveness and wins more duels,” Tudor said.

“We did win in a way that I really liked, we stayed in it and even had the chance to bring the score to 3-0.

“It's fine, I don't mind winning that way – it helps the boys to grow, it teaches them to suffer and still make it.”

Juventus dictated the game from the start, but went into the interval with a man less after Yildiz got a red card for a lost arm in the face of Alessandro Bianco.

It was the first resignation of the Turkish international in the Serie A at the age of 60 in the competition, and it could be a huge blow to his team for the rest of the campaign.

No player has created more chances (48) this season or completed more Dribbels (55) for Juventus A than Yildiz, while only Dusan Vlahovic (15) has more goals in the top flight for the bianconeri than the 19-year-old (six, level with Kolo Muani).

“He is a champion – only the really strong can play in those tight spaces. Players like him are rare and they have great value. We will sort something out,” Tudor said.

“We will find 11 strong players to start with, that's the most important thing.”
