Man Utd and Chelsea get major transfer boost in race for £30m striker target

Ipswich Town is officially banned from the Premier League and the road made for Manchester United and Chelsea to chase their star striker Liam Delap this summer

Manchester United and Chelsea can do everything to try to sign Liam Delap after the relegation of Ipswich from the Premier League. This season, Delap has attracted attention to the tractor boys and has broken 12 league goals, despite the struggles on the bottom of the table.

The 22-year-old striker plays his first season in the top flight, but immediately looked at the highest level at home. He always seemed to leave Ipswich in the summer transfer window and the confirmation of the relegation of Ipswich back to the championship makes that even more likely.

Ipswich joined Southampton and Leicester when making an immediate return to the championship on Saturday after losing 3-0 from Newcastle. Manager Kieran McKenna has suggested that they can try to hold their star player, but they will be powerless to do this when a larger club comes in for him.

That is because the £ 30 million release clause from Delap has now officially become officially active after relegation. United and Chelsea are both connected to him and the summer transfer window will be opened for business on 1 June.

United wants to sign two strikers this summer and are ready to pay £ 62.5 million to land Matheus Cunha van Wolves. But the need for more firepower is that Ruben Amorim wants two attackers, where Delap or Victor Osimhen has focused next to Cunha.

For the trip to Newcastle, McKenna claimed that Delap's departure was not inevitable. “I don't know who it would be accepted, because that is not alone or Ipswich,” he said. “Liam's Focus is still here and ends the season as strong as possible.” As I have said before, I think there is certainly a possibility that he will be an Ipswich player next year. I don't think something has been decided in someone's thoughts.

“But can Liam play for the biggest clubs in the country, the largest clubs in the world? He can certainly do that. I fully believe that. He has already shown the impact he can have at Premier League level in a team that really fought for everything.

“I think he can have an excellent impact at this level. But he is also very young and he plays his first season of Premier League football. He didn't play a huge amount of minutes as a leading striker in a team and he is still learning and get better all the time.

“What is good for Liam? What is good for Ipswich? All those factors will play in the summer and the right decision will be made. But he is happy and he is developing really well here. He has it potential. I think he will do some real, really good things in his career.”
