Trent Alexander-Arnold was right under the title celebrations of Liverpool, but his future with the Reds remains uncertain in the midst of a free transfer to Real Madrid
Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold has not yet decided to move to Real Madrid. Alexander-Arnold, 26, is on track to become a free agent when his contract with Liverpool ends on 30 June.
Teammates Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah were in the same boat before they signed new two -year deals with the Reds earlier this month. But Alexander-Arnold still seems to be left to leave Anfield and Real has long been considered the favorites to sign him with a free transfer.
In March it was reported that the International of England had agreed a five -year contract worth more than £ 220,000 a week. But in the midst of Liverpool's Premier League title celebrations on Sunday, Gakpo hinted that a deal was not closed.
Discussing the club's ambitions to maintain the competition title next season by strengthening the Arne Slot team, the Dutchman told LFC TV: “Now with Mo and Virgil, and hopefully they can continue to build.”
Gakpo spoke long after the last whistle in the unbridled 5-1 victory of the Reds against Tottenham who sealed the Premier League title. Liverpool only needed a draw, but came from behind to hammer their opponents for a jubilant Anfield.
A number of players were made available for interviews after the game, but not Alexander-Arnold. The right back of Reds was cautious when he was asked for his future the last weekend, after he scored the winning goal against Leicester.
“I said the whole season that I am not going to talk about my situation. I am not going to go into the details,” Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports. “But days like today are always special. Scoring goals, playing games, winning games, winning titles – they are special moments for me and I am happy to do my part.”
