Paul Merson has sensationally claimed that Arsenal would win the Premier League with no less than 10 points if they would sign one player this summer.
After beating Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday, Liverpool brought the Gunners to the title with four more games and a lead of 15 points, making Arne Slot's side the earliest fourth champions in the Premier League history.
Arsenal has chased Liverpool since November, with the Reds in the first place in the past five months in the midst of an unbeaten run of 26 game.
For the side of Mikel Arteta, an important obstacle to the success of Premier League has been their matte goalscores record, especially in comparison with their imperious defense.
This season Arsenal scored 63 goals in the competition, 17 less than Liverpool, and less than Newcastle (65) and Manchester City (66). In the meantime, the Gunners have only allowed 29 goals compared to the 32 of Liverpool.
In the light of their struggle at the top, it is common discourse around Arsenal that they have to add a good no. 9 to their ranks in the summer, with the Alexander Isak of Newcastle at the top of many fan lists with summer hopeful.
And Merson argued that if Arsenal would land the signature of Isak this summer, the 25-year-old would help them blow their competition out of the water.
'Let's not forget – [Newcastle] Are now a big club and if they are eligible for the Champions League, they will be an attractive project for every player, “the expert told Sportskeeda.
'I think Isak will certainly want to be involved in the Champions League next season and that will play a key role.
“Arsenal seems to him the best possible move when he leaves Newcastle. If the Gunners get him, they win the competition with 10 points. '
Arteta is considered an old admirer of Isak, and Arsenal has been associated with a move for him in recent years.
Sources in Newcastle insist that there is no asking price for a player they want to keep in St James' park, but it would almost certainly take compensation that paid more than the British record £ 115 million Chelsea for Moises Caicedo if he left.
The situation of Isak on Tyneside is not easy. He is already the best earner of the club and has a contract until 2028. However, there is no doubt that a player of his caliber could demand a higher wage elsewhere.
For now, Newcastle cannot improve its contract status because of PSR, but a return to the Champions League would probably change that position in the summer. It would also offer the player the platform of the best European competition he wants.
Last month, Isak revealed that 'no conversations' were held with regard to a new contract in Newcastle, insistently that discussions about his future should wait until the end of the season.
The Swede said: 'I think I said, I don't really think about the summer. But yes, that will probably be a talk point once the season has ended. We will really see it, because no conversations have been held yet. '
Isak has illuminated the Premier League this season, delivered 22 goals and provided six assists in 31 performances.
His goalscoring count is the second of each player, while the frontman also added the second most target contributions (28) in the competition in 2024-25.
