Leverkusen reportedly gave him until mid -May to solve his future in the club, but while they are looking for a successor, all signs show that Alonso leaves the club for Los Blancos. The Basque manager takes over after the club World Cup in July, where director of Voetbal Santiago Solari is brought in on an interim basis. They say that Alonso has a smooth communication line with general manager Jose Angel Sanchez.
There are only 24 days between the end of the League season and the first match of Real Madrid against Al-Hilal in the club World Cup.
