Arteta insists Arsenal can ‘do something special’ in return leg in PSG

Mikel Arteta insisted that Arsenal is able to produce a special moment to fall their defeat on the first pier against Paris Saint-Germain to fall and reach the Champions League final.

The Gunners will go to the French capital next week with a single goal in the last four match after Ousmane Dembele surprised the Emirates when he struck within four minutes.

Although Mikel Merino had a second half goal for offside, PSG replacement Goncalo Ramos David Raya's Dwarsbalk hit in the last minutes and the men of Arteta can happily count to still be in the draw.

Arteta said, however: “We are exactly the same as it was after we have defeated Real Madrid 3-0 in the first stage of the quarterfinals during the break. We have to go to Paris and win the game, and we are more than able to do it.

“If you want to win the final of the Champions League, you have to do something special, and we will have to do something special in Paris to be there. We still have many opportunities to be in that final.

“We will certainly make a few adjustments, and depending on the context of the game, we will make more adjustments.

“And from there we will go with great enthusiasm, with a lot of desire and with the feeling that we can do it.”

'Game definitely with fine margins'

Arsenal achieved a comfortable 2-0 win against PSG in October, but the reformed side of Luis Enrique ran out of the blocks on Tuesday evening and completely dominated most of the opening period.

Arteta said he was forced in a tactical switch, which he would not make public, halfway through the first half, and Arsenal improved with Gabriel Martinelli who forced a nice rescue from Gianluigi Donnarumma for Merino's header only 90 seconds after the interval was trembled by VAR.

Leandro Trossard tested Donnarumma again, but Bradley Barcola added almost a second for the visitors with 10 minutes to go when his shot fell closely and Ramos then hit Raya's woodwork.

“I saw two very good teams, but the margins are so small,” Arteta added. “They had efficiency for the goal. The goalkeeper also made a difference to the result.

“We had two one-on-one with Donnarumma and when they go inside, it's a different story,” Arteta added. “But he made the rescues, and that is the difference in the Champions League. The margins are so small and it didn't go on our way.”

Luis Enrique: We can't abandon our guard

PSG dismissed Manchester City in the group stage before he defeated Liverpool on penalties in the last 16 and then eliminated Aston Villa in the quarterfinals.

And after their victory against Arsenal – who places them in a pole position to be Barcelona or Inter Milan in the showpiece of next month – PSG Baas Luis Enrique said: “There was an incredible atmosphere in the stadium, it was deafening, but we came to a wonderful start and the early goal gave us a boost of trust.

“It is mission accomplished for this evening. But our goal is to win the second stage at home.

“With Arsenal we cannot abandon our guard or be complacent because they can score quickly and we are back to.

“There is nothing in the bag. We have to win when we get home because Arsenal has nothing to lose now.”

“They won in the Bernabeu, why can't they win in Paris?”

Sky Sports' Clinton Morrison on Soccer Special:

“They were against a good PSG team. I don't think Arsenal did a lot wrong, it was a very close game, but PSG created the better chances. Arsenal created a few chances, but Donnarumma was in fantastic form.

“The difference between the two teams was the pace and the counterattack. PSG's Voorste three caused many problems. Even Barcola, when he came up, had a golden chance.

“The home band is very important, so it was a bit disappointing. Sometimes the Arsenal fans were quiet, but they made a lot of noise and tried to find out.

“They are still in this draw. PSG is a difficult place to go, but they can create opportunities. They went to Real Madrid and won, so why can't they go to PSG and win?

“This is a different PSG than when Liverpool played. They are full of confidence, they know their game plan.

“The improvement I have seen in PSG for the past three or four years has been fantastic. They are not individual players in their team, they work for each other.

“Dembele is a superstar. He has 45 targets. He has 30 goals this season, I think nine in the Champions League. His career has just turned upside down and he has been fantastic.

“Arsenal missed Thomas Partey. I don't think Dembele gets that goal if Pareny is four for the back. He pulls out, and then Declan Rice enables to play higher, but they will have him back for the second stage.

“They have to believe, because next Wednesday will be a great atmosphere and play on the counterattack. They have the players to cause problems and PSG will not lean back and hold the 1-0.

“They will get ahead, so that Arsenal gets the chance to fall against, but they will have to keep it tight at the back.”

“It's a disappointing night, but they are still in this draw. On 1-0, you know, going to PSG is a difficult place to go, but they can create opportunities. They went to Real Madrid and won, so why can't they go to PSG and win?”

What is the next step for Arsenal and PSG?

Arsenal will travel to France to France against PSG in the Parc des Princes this Wednesday.

But for that, the Gunners Bournemouth organized in the late afternoon kick -off of the Premier League on Saturday, live on Sky Sports, while PSG went to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on the same day earlier.
