MU announce pre-season friendly vs Fiorentina, De Gea to return to Old Trafford

For the first time since his departure from Manchester United, David de Gea has returned to Old Trafford to Old Trafford for the first time after the club after the club.

The side of Ruben Amorim will be confronted on Saturday 9 August in the last of five pre-season races.

It will be the first time in 26 years that United has been confronted with Fiorentina since the two clubs played in the group stage of the Champions League in the 1999-2000 season.

The fixture could also see that the GEA would return to Manchester for the first time from 2023. The Spanish stop made 545 performances for the Red Devils – the most by a goalkeeper in the history of the club – in the club for 12 years.

De Gea left as a free agent after his contract was not extended at the end of the season. United signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £ 43 million that summer, while De Gea went without a club for more than a year before he agreed a deal in Florence.

The 34-year-old De Gea played every league match for Raffaele Palladino's side after he entered the team in September and seems to be getting an extension to stay in the Serie A.

United has already confirmed that they will play Leeds in Stockholm before participating in the Premier League Summer Series in the US against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton.

The technical director of United, Jason Wilcox of United, said: 'This last match for the season is the key to our preparations for the 2025-26 campaign that the players have all had a competitive game time, against top opposition, in various environments, including Old Trafford, before the Premier League resumes.

'We have worked closely with Ruben and his coaching staff to put together a schedule of exciting and competitive luminaires that create the best conditions for the team to prepare.

“This includes the use of some of the leading sports facilities in the US, playing against strong opponents and creating opportunities for as many fans as possible to see the team live in Sweden, the US, and, with this last game, at home in the Theater of Dreams.”
