Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis WITHDRAWS control of club under UEFA rules

Nottingham Forest is expected to be released in the Champions League of next season, where owner Evangelos Marinakis paved his interest in the club to meet UEFA rules.

Marinakis is the owner of the Greek giants Olympiacos, and both can be eligible for the European top club competition for 2025-26.

Forest can be third in the Premier League if they beat Brentford on Thursday, while Olympiacos almost certainly claim a place in next season's competition. And with the top five in the Premier League that also automatically qualifies, Forest can take an important step to achieve that goal.

According to UEFA rules, two clubs under identical ownership cannot comply with the same European competition, unless certain requirements are met.

UEFA would allow both clubs to play in the Champions League, as long as the control of one of them was temporarily transferred to a third party, known as a blind trust.

This blind trust would then have a decision -making responsibility for the relevant period.

Sokratis Kominakis, a long -term employee of Marinakis who nevertheless lost from the board last year, has been reappointed as director.

Three new directors – Matthew Cain, Tim Osborne and Matthew Shayle – have also been added to the board.

Osborne is a senior partner of law firm Wiggin Osborne Fullerlove, of which Cain and Shayle are partners.

According to its website, Wiggin Osborne Fullerlove is 'a specialized international law firm for private customers who provide tailor -made legal services to customers with high power.'
