Viktor Gyokeres is expected to leave Sporting Lisbon when the summer transfer window opens and Manchester United is linked to the series of clubs to sign him
Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim has revealed that he did not speak to transfer Target Viktor Gyokeres about a possible move to Old Trafford. Gyokeres, 26, attracts interest from all over Europe in the midst of another amazing season with Sporting Lisbon, the club that Amorim left to become a member of United in November.
The Red Devils belong to those interested in a movement, with the release clause of the Swedish striker at around £ 60 million. Premier League rivals Arsenal are said to be the best placed club that Gyokeres signed, which this season scored 52 goals in 48 games.
It has been claimed that the striker of the ex-Coventry City has drawn up a shortlist of clubs that he would be open to signing for this summer, with the aim of playing Champions League football. Amorim, however, has told his former player to become a member of United if his only wish is to play in Europe Elite Competition, who can still be eligible for the Red Devils despite their terrible domestic season.
Winning the Europa League this month would earn a place in next season's Champions League and increase their pulling power during the summer transfer window. But as things are, Amorim says that a movement for Gyokees is not on the agenda.
“I didn't talk to him,” said the United manager the Portuguese broadcasting TV prior to the Semi-Final first leg on Thursday from Thursday to Athletic Bilbao.
“But if a player only wants to come to Man United to play Champions League, he will not come. We want players who want to represent United, not players who want to play certain matches.”
Amorim's comments come after the new sporty boss Rui Borges acknowledged that the time of Gyokeres in Lisbon could end well. “Viktor is a player. I think there are no words,” Borges said last month.
“It is unlikely that another player of his quality will arise in our competition in the coming years. He is clearly above average. Sporting recognized his talent, and here we are.
Does Viktor Gyokeres have to draw for Manchester United? Say in the commentary part.
“Fortunately we have him at the sport. We have to get the most from the time we have with him because he is really exceptional. I said this before, and I will continue to say it: he brings a lot to the team, and his teammates are aware of what he contributes, that's why they are looking for him during games.
“The collective effort also plays a role, because nobody can succeed alone. Viktor is a game changer, and he will stay, either with us or elsewhere. His quality cannot be denied; it is phenomenal.”
