UFC insider claims Tom Aspinall has been ‘convinced’ to fight Ciryl Gane as Jon Jones delays unification fight

Fans can wait longer for the UFC Heavyweight Title Unification Fight between Jones and Tom Aspinall.

UFC fans have been left in the dark for several months with regard to the status of a heavyweight title Unification Fight between Jones and Tom Aspinall.

An announcement seemed impossible after Aspinall revealed that he was 'sworn to the secret', but admitted that he now knows what is going on with regard to conversations.

UFC boss Dana White recently gave a positive update about the fight, which states that he is still extremely convinced that the fight will happen.

UFC Insider claims that Aspinall is convinced to combat Ciryl Gane

Nevertheless, fans have again been given a big blow, because UFC Insider, Din Thomas, has claimed that Aspinall is convinced instead to defend his interim title against Ciryl Gane on UFC 317.

Thomas is not the first UFC insider to make this claim, as Chael Sonnen recently stated that Aspinall vs is in the making.

Earlier this week, Aspinall established an undesirable record as the longest reigning UFC -Interim champion in the history of the promotion.

“If I had to put my money on it, I think they convinced Tom Aspinall to fight Ciryl Gane,” Thomas said in a recent interview with Mike Bohn.

“Tom wants to fight and he will be like:” Okay, I will fight, “and I think they throw a number at Ciryl Gane. It will not be ideal for him, but they will throw and number he cannot refuse and he will take it and I think it is so more logical.

“Jon is a chess player, he is a very intellectual chess player. He tries to collect as much information as possible about Tom Aspinall. We have not seen him in many difficult places, we do not know how he will respond, and I think Jon is probably waiting for that.

“That is probably what Jon is looking for from Tom Aspinall. Give him a few more fights. I want a little more information before I say yes to this fight,” Thomas continued.

Jon Jones now the second longest reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion

Earlier this week 'Bones' became the second longest reigning UFC heavyweight champion, in which Stipe caught up Miocic and now just behind Cain Velasquez.

If Jones continues to slow the fight for another six months, he will overtake Velasquez as the longest reigning heavyweight champion in the UFC history, despite only one defense of his title.

Whether or not the 37-year-old the Mexican catches up, fans are irritated by Jones' antics and his adamance not to fight Asinall will undoubtedly affect his legacy in the heads of a large majority of the fan base.
