Henry calls for return of scrapped UCL rule after Inter’s 3-3 thriller vs Barca

Thierry Henry seemed to call for the return of the road target rule in the aftermath of the semi -final of Bombastic Champions League between Inter Milan and Barcelona.

The visitors to the Estadio Olimpic Lluis Company came within the milimeters of conquering the first stage of the last four collision after the former Arsenal star Henrikh Mkhanyan lets down in the second half.

But the linesman was quick to lift his flag, and semi-automated offside concluded what an exciting conclusion would have been for the 3-3 draw with high Octan.

The hosts came twice from behind to share the loot, and inter -followed Inter Milan from the first minute of the game after Marcus Thuram silently surprised the Trouw in Barcelona with his neatly spotted goal.

Denzel Dumfries doubled the lead from Inter 20 minutes later, but it was only three for the Blaugrana to finally get to the score sheet with a moment of magic of Teenage Starlet Lamine Yamal.

Ferran Torres drew Barcelona level for the break, but Lamal was forced to catch up again in the second half after Dumfries scored his second.

In the light of Inter's impressive effort, Henry wondered if the team should have got more of the luminaire for the second legs at the San Siro.

“I know it has been the case for a while, and we have to accept it,” Henry said about the removal of the road objective, “but from the sky I spoke with Jamie (Carragher), and I had something like:” How can you score three goals from home and you have no advantage? '

“Goals for me were huge, you score three goals away and you still have no advantage 0-0 at home,” Henry shrugged.

UEFA made the decision to delete the rule that gave goals from home at home, the ability to act as a tiebreaker in the case of level scoring lines prior to the 2021-22 season.

The current FIFA head of global football development Arsene Wenger claimed during his time as an Arsenal manager in 2015 that the rule of road rule 'encouraged the team at home not to attack' and that 'the weight of the road goal (was) too great today'.

Without the rules, the draw at San Siro goes to extra time and fines to decide which teams book their place in the final of the Champions League.

But based on the performance of Wednesday evening, Henry Inter seemed to give a fight against the newly beaten Copa del Rey champions.

“I didn't think Inter Milan would perform how they did for how they recently played,” Henry continued.

The Serie A -side is a challenge for the competition for the competition most of the season -but have suffered a small blip in the form of lately and lost Roma and Bologna in their last two domestic ties.

“You have to give them a lot of praise for matching what Barcelona gave them, strong in the game,” said Henry. “To be honest, I didn't expect that.”
