The goalkeeper of Nottingham Forest Matz Sels has a better season than Alisson Becker from Liverpool, Ian Ladyman of Mail Sport has claimed on the latest 'It's all sticking!' Podcast.
Debating of co-host and expert Chris Sutton about who this year should be considered goalkeeper of the season, claimed football editor Ladyman that he would rank Sels above the title-winning Brazilian, because the honor must be awarded on the basis of 'who you play for'.
In 33 Premier League matches, Sels recorded 13 clean sheets and 108 Saves, on average three saves per match.
The Belgian gave 39 goals during a season in which the forest of Nuno shocked the experts and fans shocked by turning into relegation feed to maintaining a position in the top four.
Ladyman told the podcast: 'Sels leads the race for the Golden Glove. Do I think he is a better keeper than Alisson? No. But this is about the performance level compared to who you play.
“I am not saying that he is the best keeper in the world, but this season he has been the best in the Premier League.”
Sutton supported Liverpool's loyal keeper, looked beyond the statistics and privileged instead of the major saves of Alison in great moments'.
In comparison with Sels, Alisson has registered half the amount of saves in just nine fewer competitions.
The Brazilian also registered a lower save per match, around two. However, this can be explained by the better defense of Liverpool, with the will of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Tactically, the red from Arne Slot looks at control games, while Forest has the lowest possession statistics in the competition, so that Sels exerts more pressure to hold them in competitions.
“I have changed his mind from the start of this season,” Sutton revealed.
'I would say Alisson: he has been an excellent keeper, the best in the Premier League and the best in the world.
“This season he is great with his feet and makes those big saves at great moments.”
Columnist Ladyman also mentioned the other goalkeepers who should be eligible for the prize.
He said: 'Arsenal's David Raya must be in that conversation. He had an excellent season. I would even have Brentford's Mark Flekken in the conversation. '
Looking ahead to next week's episode, where the couple will debate about their defense of the season, mocked Ladyman Sutton for an observed bias opposite Liverpool.
“I assume your back will be four, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Konate and Robertson.”
