Chito Vera butchered heavy-handed UFC boxer who outlanded him by 100+ strikes

One of the UFC versions of Chito Vera took place today 3 years ago.

A bit for his title Rematch from 2024 with the then champion Sean O'Malley, the Marlon 'Chito' by Ecuador was one of the most popular contenders in the talented UFC Bantamweight Division.

Prior to a loss of a main event for the top candidate and the headliner Cory Sandhagen this weekend, Vera had striped during an impressive win of four fights.

Vera brutally broke former champions Dominick Cruz and Frankie Edgar and earned 'Fight of the Night' awards against Davey Grant and Knock -out artist Rob Font, who almost doubled his strike.

Chito Vera hit Rob Font three times in Bloody Battle

Font and Vera met in the five -round main event of UFC Vegas 53 on April 30, 2022. Font had missed the weight for the competition with Vera, so that the boxer had paid for each round for each pound.

Save twice by the bell, the font survived to see the distance with Vera who won their fight through a unanimous decision, two judges score the match 4 rounds to 1 for the Ecuadorian.

On paper, the statistics told a completely different story with font landing Vera in strikes in every round. In rounds 1-3, the font essentially doubled the important strikes that Vera had.

In the significant strike totals, Font Vera defeated 271-159, with almost 199 strikes on the head of Vera Landen. In total strikes, the font had the edge with 273-167.

Font threw 520 strikes over five rounds compared to the 291 from Vera. But the figures would not help him, because Vera was beating with several fight -dependent shots to protect him from a relatively skewed victory.

With this victory, Marlon Vera came out a top 5 candidate at 135 pounds. 'Chito' fell $ 100,000 and took on Font's Fight of the Night bonus because he missed the weight.

Vera returns to back-to-back losses for former Champs Sean O'Malley and Deiveson Figueiredo, looking for Mario Bautista on UFC 316 on June 7.
