Real Madrid has several players from the contract on 30 June and they will move to keep two players after this date. But interesting is that their stay will only be an extra two weeks.
This summer Real Madrid is taking part in the first edition of the new format of the club World Cup. The tournament, which is held in the United States, now contains 32 teams and runs from 14 June to 13 July.
Because it goes after 30 June, players whose contracts expire on this date must sign an extension to be able to play in the club World Cup. And with regard to Real Madrid, they chose to do this with Lucas Vazquez and Luka Modric.
As reported by Diario AS, Lucas and Modric will extend their contracts until July 13 – by exactly two weeks. Real Madrid counts on both for the club World Cup, but at this stage it is difficult to say whether they are offered an extra extension until the end of the 2025-26 season.
In recent weeks it has been reported that Real Madrid has already decided not to offer no new one -year contracts to Lucas and Modric. The expected arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold would mean that the latter is no longer necessary, while the future of the current capital could depend on whether a new midfielder has been signed.
For now, the focus of Lucas and Modric will be on the rest of the La Liga season, which will take place this weekend when Real Madrid -Gastheer Celta Vigo in the Santiago Bernabeu. But it is now clear that they will stay in the club for at least a little longer than previously planned, which is a small crumb of comfort for them.
