Matheus Cunha has been excellent for Wolves this season and head coach Vorror Pereira has admitted that the Brazilian would leave the club in the summer transfer window
Wolves head coach Vorror Pereira has hinted that Matheus Cunha could be sold this summer by claiming: “You can't build a club around a player.”
Star Man Cunha has led the indictment wolves from relegation candidates to the security of the mid-table since Pereira arrived as boss in the depths of Mid-Winter. And the 15 goals of the Brazilian and six assists have led a great interest from Manchester United.
But in a new interview, Pereira says that Wolves will pedal next season “with Cunha or without Cunha” while the Molineux makes up for a potential bidding war. Cunha, 25, is under contract until the summer of 2029 and would have a considerable fee if he leaves. He reportedly has a release clause of £ 62 million.
“I hope that we can do a good job together, because to continue and to make the next step, we don't need millions and millions, we have to have intelligence – search players with the profile we need,” said Pereira. “If we find the right players and we create the right spirit in the small town with these people, it is easier.
“The club will certainly continue to build a strong team – with Cunha or without Cunha. You can't build a club around a player.”
However, there seems to be little chance that Pereira will disappear after a stunning opening for a few months in the work. The Portuguese arrived a few days before Christmas as the replacement of Gary O'Neil, with wolves that stared into the face.
But they have won more than half of his competitions and their last six to reach 13th place for both United and Tottenham. Only Liverpool and Newcastle have recorded more Premier League victories at that time.
Wolves travel to Manchester City on Friday evening and end the season with home games against Brighton and Brentford on either side of a visit to FA Cup finalists Crystal Palace.
Cunha's Wolves teammate Matt Doherty recently claimed that the former product of Atletico Madrid will soon play in the Champions League. The attacker arrived in English football after a difficult enchantment with the Spanish giants, but Doherty is convinced that he can thrive at the highest level.
Doherty said: “Sometimes it takes you to leave a place to find yourself, to realize what to do, perhaps to return to a place. Because he should play for Atletico for week in, week out.
“That is not the case, but I am pretty sure that he will play conceivably at the highest level – Champions League, things like that – fairly quickly. Huge, enormous potential.”
