Amorim unwilling to take any risks with Man Utd fitness

Ruben Amorim says he will rotate his Manchester United team against Brentford, because he does not want to take any risks with their fitness.

United has passed a cool Premier League season, in 14th place in the table at 39 points.

They are currently winless in five games in the competition, a run that extended thanks to a 1-1 draw against the previous time-out of 10-man Bournemouth.

However, they travel to London on the back of a stunning 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final first leg of the Europa League on Thursday.

With the most important second stage that came in Old Trafford next week, Amorim noted that although the Europa League is still the priority, they had to set up a fight against Brentford.

“The first is that the players who run the risk of injury will not play, whatever happens,” said Amorim.

“For example, Noussair [Mazraoui] runs danger and we have to manage the players. We will assess and choose the best available players.

“Then we have to be careful because we are Manchester United, and we can't go to a game without thinking that we can win this game. So the process will be like that.

“It will be difficult, but we will pass on so many things this year. It is another one. Let's take a look.”

In the meantime, Brentford still has an external opportunity to claim a place in the Europa Conference League after their 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Thursday.

They are currently 11th, but are only two points behind the eighth placed Fulham, which plays Aston Villa on Saturday.

A large part of the success of Brentford this season is the collaboration between Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, and Thomas Frank is delighted to see which other levels they can reach.

“It was a great privilege to be involved in their development and partnership,” he said. “The biggest honor to the two players.

“The way they have developed so far, why no longer? Nobody knows what their ceiling is. It is my job to maximize the potential of the team.”

Players to watch

Brentford – Yoane Wissa

Both Bryan Mbeumo and Wissa have scored 11 Premier League goals this season on home floor for Brentford, the joint most by a bee player in a season, together with Ivan Toney in 2022-23.

Wissa brought his count to 17 goals for the season last time -out against Forest, now his battle partner with only one.

Manchester United – Bruno Fernandes

This season Fernandes has created the most chances of each player in the Premier League (84), including seven previous Time -out in Bournemouth.

It was the 11th time that he created 7+ opportunities in a Premier League game, and since 2003-04 has recorded OPTA, only Mesut Ozil and Kevin De Bruyne (14 times each) have done this more often.

Match forecast: Brentford Win

Brentford ended a run of eight Home Premier League matches without a victory with a 4-2 victory over Brighton on April 19. It was the fifth time that they had scored four or more goals in a home competition match in 2024-25, their most in a season since 1991-92 (also five in the third Tier).

They have won only one of their last 12 meetings with United in all competitions (D2 L9), but that was in August 2022 on a home floor (4-0).

Brentford has won five of their last seven Premier League matches against teams of them in the table on the day of the match (D1 L1), although four of those five victories have gone away from home.

United has only won three of their last 21 Premier League matches against London parties (D5 L13), with all three those victories against Fulham.

They are also Winless in their last five Premier League matches (D2 L3), their worst run since April-May 2019 (also five). They did not turn six without a victory since November-December 2015 under Louis van Gaal.

Opta wins probability

Brentford – 55%

Drawing – 22.7%

Manchester United – 22.3%
