It is no secret that Barcelona seriously considered a summer movement for a new attack player. But the chances that this happens seem to have decreased now that it is unlikely that sports director Deco's preferent target is available.
In recent months, Barcelona has been reported as a strong interest in Luis Diaz, where that interest is mainly driven by Deco. The Colombia International did not have the largest season with Liverpool, but he was seen as someone who would significantly improve Hansi Flick's options on the left wing.
But things have taken a turn in recent weeks. Barcelona started to lose the interest in signing every attacker this summer, let alone Diaz, and now it is very unlikely that something will happen to the Liverpool player.
That is because Sky (via Sport) reported that Liverpool and Diaz are in conversation through a new contract, and given that an agreement is expected to be relatively easy, it would exclude every departure for him during the coming summer transfer window.
There is some dissatisfaction among Liverpool supporters with regard to Diaz, but head coach Arne Slot is the one who insists on the Colombia International to stay in Anfield. And with the Premier League title already packed, negotiations have now started this issue.
It was smart for Barcelona to leave Diaz this summer, and after these developments this means that a deal is no longer possible anyway. A deal with Liverpool would have been very expensive, and given their well -documented financial misery, it would have little sense to sign him. It is still to be seen whether a lot of money is spent elsewhere, or whether the club decides to save the limited funds it has.
