Mourinho and Solskjaer feud reignites in Turkey after parenting jab

Four years after they last divorced and threw back hooks, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will lock Hoorns again tomorrow.

Two legends from the Premier League, now locked up in Istanbul.

Both the Special One and the more soft Norwegian will enjoy the passion and drama, because the flickering title of Fenerbahce requires a victory over Solskjaer's Besiktas.

You can't help it, but you suspect that both former Manchester managers of the Manchester United would jump a last chance in English football.

Mourinho's record of three Prem Crowns in two spells in Chelsea More than surpasses Solskjaer's rules in Cardiff and United of course.

The Portuguese lifted both the Carabao Cup and the Europa League during his Old Trafford spell, while the highlight of Solskjaer is a near-Miss Europe Final Penalty Shootout defeat against Villarreal was in May 2021.

That was less than two months after the couple was bickering as a school kids after United's 3-1 victory at Mourinho's Tottenham, only a week before he was fired by Spurs Supremo Daniel Levy.

It was playground stuff, in which Solskjaer son Heung-Min accused the referee to put on a VAR check that has excluded a united goal.

Solskjaer said at the time, “If my son stays in such a way and gets ten of his friends around him, he doesn't get any food.”

Mourinho replied that the comments from Solskjaer had made him “very sad”, and added: “Sonny is very lucky that his father is a better person than ole.

“As a father you always have to feed your children. If you have to steal to feed your children, you steal.

“I am very, very disappointed. As we say in Portugal, bread is bread and cheese is cheese. I have already told you what I think of his comments.”

Four years later, with Solskjaer who was appointed by the Black Eagles in January, they meet again.

Since replacing Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Solskjaer, 52, has lifted his direction from seventh to the fourth in the Turkish Super Lig, with a chance of a Europa League play-off place if they can revise the third placed SamsunSpor.

But for Mourinho, whose Zijpad Arch-Rivalen Galatasaray with five points with five to play, it is a must-win game.

But before the game, the duo has lowered their pistols.

Printed on their personal rivalry, the man whose vast right foot Bayern Munich -Harten broke to complete United's Treble Demurrred from 1999.

The Besiktas -Baas said: “This is not a match between Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“This is a match between Besiktas and Fenerbahce. The players will determine the score. I have a lot of respect for Mourinho.

“There are not many managers as successful as he, so I look forward to a derby like this.”

But given their history in English football, it feels a strange place for them to have ended up both – and certainly not their final destination.

It may not be easy to suggest a potential Prem club where Solskjaer would be a clear fit, although his efforts at Cardiff suggest that he could be an option for ambitious championship equipment.

But one of the men who felt the rough and smooth side of Mourinho's tongue, former Chelsea and England Ace Joe Cole, is convinced that the 62-year-old Special One did not yet run his last prem race.

Cole said: “Jose is still a genius as a manager. He still has potential.

“I would like to see him again in the Premier League. He breaks cash register records. If you want to win something, Mourinho is the man you are going.”

Mourinho left Spurs with much to prove – winning the UEFA Conference League with Roma in 2022 to make his point.

Just like Solskjaer, he has unfinished things in England and would enjoy one last Hoorah.

This weekend, however, it is all about the color and intensity of Istanbul.

A draw would fit with Solskjaer, which hints to play without a recognized No. 9, while Mourinho has to win.

The only guarantee is that Sparks will fly both on and outside the field.

They wouldn't have it in any other way.
