Napoli came closer to their dream to claim the Scudetto with Saturday's 1-0 win at Lecce, but Antonio Conte has warned that they have to complete the task to remember.
Conte has won competition titles with Juventus, Inter and Chelsea, but leading a Napoli side that ended 10th last season in the Serie A to Glory would demonstrably be his best performance.
The stunner of Giacomo Raspadori pushed the couplesopei closer to that goal on Saturday, although Inter later responded by beating Verona 1-0, which means that the teams are still separated by three points on the top with three more games.
“I will say that if and when it eventually happens,” he told reporters when he was asked if this would be his most memorable title win.
“Let's not talk about things that we don't have yet. I have won the last day and lost titles. I have the experience needed to make the boys understand the importance.
“The one who wins, writes history, the others, at most, they can read about it. Nobody will remember us when we finish second.”
Lecce can fight against relegation, but Conte was on their care for one side that had signed the last time in Atalanta -in a match that was rearranged after the death of Lecce physiotherapist Graziano Fiorita.
“It is a very important victory. It is not the most important, but it is important,” said Conte.
“I was very afraid of this competition because of many situations, also because Lecce came from a draw from Atalanta.
“Unfortunately, there was also this accident that a person I knew very well, just as I knew his father, who died a few years ago.”
Conte praised his players for earning three points in the light of continuous injury problems.
Defender Alessandro Buongiorno was their newest victim this week and now seems to miss the walk -in with a groin injury.
“We have arrived to manage an emergency situation because everything seems normal, but today (Mathias) Olivera played as a central defender and it is the first time he has done that with me,” said Conte.
“In the end, nobody talks about it, but (David) Neres is out, Buongiorno and Juan Jesus too.
“(Stanislav) Lobotka was injured today, I hope he can recover because we continue to lose pieces, but we don't give up.
“And this is the most important quality of this team. We are on top of things and we want to continue until the end.”
