Former PL striker Lisbie has lifted the lid on his experiences play under Keane

Former Premier League striker Kevin Lisbie has lifted the lid on his experiences playing under Roy Keane in Ipswich Town.

The Jamaican international striker played 113 times in the Premier League, scored 14 goals and offers five assists, the most famous for Charlton Athletic in the English top flight.

In addition to the addicks, Lisbie also had Stints with Derby, Colchester and Ipswich Town, where he collaborated with Manchester United -legend Keane.

Keane, known as a hard-tackling, no-nonsense midfielder who demanded the highest standards of his teammates, had a short management career of 181 competitions in Sunderland and Ipswich before he turned into media work.

Although he had two solid spells, he did not have the same level of success that he had managed in his match days.

In a recent podcast, Lisbie revealed what life was under Keane, although he admitted that his short enchantment under the Premier League legend was not exactly the most pleasant of his career.

'I would say that was the worst time, but I forgot Roy! I completely forgot that, I tried to remove that from my memory, “Lisbie de Undr de Cosh podcast said.

'We had a tour for the season in Ireland, we lost 2-1 and he spent 40 minutes insisting players [individually].

“You're going to work in McDonald's in a few weeks … I heard that we have rejected a £ 1 million offer for you and I would have demolished their hand for it now …”

“I really scored on that day, so I was thinking with a smile that he has nothing to say about me, he is going to compliment me, but he just walked towards me and said:” And I just don't like you. I just don't like your body language and I just don't like nothing about you.

'We went back and I never played for him again, so at least he was a man of his word! It was literally it, and he just said, “Try to find a club.”

Lisbie only played twice under Keane on Ipswich, both wins at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.

Keane had taken over late in the season after Jim Magilton was fired in April, before Lisbie joined Leen Proverbs, first at former Club Colchester United, and recently in Leyton Orient.

At 29 when Keane took the lead for the tractor Boys for the first time, Lisbie was one of the more senior players in the dressing room, although he then suggested that the former star of the Republic of Ireland preferred younger players.

'I don't think he was too interested in senior pros, I think he preferred to have the younger generation he could form. I don't know if it's an uncertainty.

“Ben Thatcher was there at that time, he tried to get Ben, but he retired that year. Roy told him that he might as well leave, but I wanted to stay.

“He got him every day at 6 o'clock and he lived about two hours away. I remember told him that he had to come in at Christmas. While we walked away, there was a helicopter about our training field.

'It lands on the ground and Ben Thatcher gets up in his boots! And Roy Keane was just like [shaking his head]. '

Keane would be in charge of Ipswich until January 2011 and finished 15th in 2009-10 in what his first full season was in the club.

In the meantime, Lisbie played for Stevenage, Barnet, Whitehawk, Cray Valley and VCD Athletic in 2022 before retired and went to coaching.
