Barcelona fume over ‘unfair’ decisions as they point finger at the referee for Inter defeat

Barcelona stars Pedri and Eric Garcia and manager Hansi Flick focused on referee Szymon Marciniak after they felt awarded in some decisions in their 4-3 extra-time defeat by Inter Milan

Barcelona focused his finger on referee Szymon Marciniak after losing their Champions League semi-final second stage against Inter Milan in the most dramatic conditions. Barca seemed to continue to the final after Raphinha's 87th minute goal brought them 3-2 in the night, only to capitulate as interbloerde back.

Veter's defender Francesco Acerbi appeared in Centrum-Forward position to hand in the cross of Denzel Dumfries in the 93rd minute to level the scores at 3-3 on the night and 6-6 and to send the draw to extra time.

Davide Fratteni then became a match winner and chose the bottom corner with a cool finish, while Yann Sommer produced a number of amazing saves to keep the leadership.

It was a wonderful, seeing competition full of goals and incidents and Marciniak had to make a number of important phone calls. He gave Inter a penalty for an error by Pau Cubarsi on Lautaro Martinez after VAR had sent him to the pitchside monitor and later turned a Barca spot kick into a free kick after VAR decided that Henrikh Mkhitaryan was outside the box.

Barca also felt awarded Inter's Late Equalizer, in the conviction that Dumfries Gerard Martin had contaminated in the structure. Manager Hansi Flick and replacement Pau Victor were booked for their protests in a spicy atmosphere on the touchline and experienced Polish officer Marciniak was also on the receiving side of some consideration after the competition.

“This is not the first time that this has happened to us with this referee, and I think UEFA should look at it. There are things that are difficult to explain,” Barca midfielder Pedri told El Partidazo de Cope.

“There were many situations. Every 50/50 went his way, and on the penalty on Lamine, which was later called a free kick, he did not give Mkhiticyan a yellow card that would have been his second.”

Eric Garcia also focused Marciniak in an interview with Movistar Plus. “Football is cruel for us,” he said. “I came to the Stadium of Inter Milan three times and things always happen that are outside of our control. We all know what happened to this referee when we came here the last time. But it is not an excuse, they scored six goals against us.”

Flick followed the leadership of his players in his press conference. “I don't want to talk too much about the referee, but every decision that was 50-50 went (inter's) way,” he said.

“I am disappointed, but not with my team. They have tried everything. It is as it is. We are out, but next year we will try to make the fans happy again.

“It makes me sad … My team has done an excellent job. I don't have fun talking about the referee … I told him what I think, but I'm not going to say what I said here.”

He pointed his attention to La Liga, added: “Every player, when they come home, can look into the mirror and be proud of themselves. We will calmly analyze the game and see what we can do.”
