Mikel Arteta could still lead Arsenal to Glory in the Champions League this season, but the Spaniard wishes him to go back and change one thing about the Gunners 2024/25
Mikel Arteta has revealed that he wishes him to go back and prevent the injury of Gabriel Jesus after looking at the Brazilian fracture his ACL. The attacker suffered the heartbreaking blow in the FA Cup defeat by Manchester United in January.
The 28-year-old had to undergo surgery and continues to rehabilitate his injury with Arsenal, who has now had an out-and-out striker. Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino have Deputten a month later after Kai Havertz had sustained a Freak Training Area Hamstring injury.
While Havertz is pushing hard to return, Jesus still has a long way to full recovery. The former Star of Manchester City will hope to make a comeback for the end of 2025.
Jesus had started to find a form in the weeks prior to his injury, with six of his seven goals within a month after the United collision. And Arteta is sad that he cannot return to that moment to prevent his indictment from getting a serious injury.
Arteta spoke with the men in blazers that he would consider doing things differently this season. “Possible. Yes,” he said.
“It is now very difficult to understand that if I could pause and say: Gabriel Jesus, we've brought you back to life. You know, you are doing incredibly well.
“You are going to get injured now, so stop. I would stop him, take another player and keep playing the game. Unfortunately we can't do this in football.”
Despite a number of injuries to important players and not setting up a serious title challenge in the Premier League, the Gunners have reached the semi -final of the Champions League. On Wednesday evening, the North London side attempt sees to overcome a shortage of one goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the Parc des Princes.
And the Spaniard is satisfied with what his side has delivered despite the adversity they have suffered. Arteta added: “I am probably more proud than in August.
“Although we have to deliver, we have experienced a lot this season with many very difficult situations that would have brought the club and the team into a very, very difficult position in all other circumstances.
“I see the team where we are and how we compete and it is an absolute joy because I have analyzed what happened in ten, 15, 20 years when these things happened to other clubs and it is very different.
“In the period that we play with the amount of injuries, you have no chance to win the competition and you have few opportunities to play in the Champions League.
“That is history, what we have done in the Champions League, with those conditions is in my opinion extraordinary.”
