Liverpool handed big boost in race for Salah successor after captain’s admission

Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract with Liverpool, but the club is still interested in signing a long-term successor this summer, with Bryan Mbeumo an in-form option

Brentford captain Christian Norgaard has admitted that star player Bryan Mbeumo “probably” will be sold in the summer transfer window. Mbeumo has 18 goals and six assists in 35 Premier League performances this season and has attracted interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The 25-year-old winger is a striking player in the Premier League this season and could follow as Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney to leave Brentford for large transfer costs this summer. Mbeumo is under contract until June 2026 and the bees have the option of another year that they can activate, but his versions have made a movement more and more likely.

Although Mohamed Salah recently committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new two -year contract, he is 32 and the club could look for a successor this summer. Mbeumo plays in the same position and is precisely recommended, while Arsenal and United are also looking for goal scorers.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank knows that his club is powerless to avoid forces further on the food chain and reportedly made a price tag of £ 60 million on Mbeumo. Norgaard has been with the bees since 2019 and knows that Mbeumo and colleague attacker Yoane Wissa can be poached this summer.

“I think Bryan will probably go,” Norgaard told Sky Sports. “I don't know anything about Wissa yet. Everyone hopes that he might stay. Anyway, I am happy for the season and I am happy for both. They deserve it so much.”

He added: “I am sure he will be ready if Wissa will get his dream movement, whether Bryan leaves and there will be a change in the attacking players. I think the club is so talented in recruiting and always two or three steps ahead.”

Frank has a pragmatic and realistic approach and knows that Brentford will have to sell Mbeumo when a large selection is coming this summer. “I am the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever,” he said last week.

“I know that Bryan is very happy to be here in Brentford, he blooms, is doing well and is playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don't know. I have often said: we are a sales club. But at the same time we have to strengthen that there are 10 clubs in the world that don't sell clubs.

“So if the right price – and that is going to be expensive – is coming, then I am sure that the club will be open for it. But I am very happy that it is here, and I am convinced that Bryan will still like to play football here.”
