Charles Oliveira fell victim to a brutal weight cut that saw him lose his UFC light weight title before he even got a blow against Justin Gaethje.
In 2021, the Underdog story by Charles Oliveira reached its peak when he became the UFC light weight champion after the elimination of Michael Chandler at UFC 262.
'Do Bronx' then went to defend his title against Dustin Poirier in another one from behind the victory, again with his championship heart.
The fan favorite Brazilian was then linked to Justin Gaethje on UFC 274 on 7 May 2022, in an attempt to make the second defense of his lightweight title.

Charles Oliveira lost UFC title after 'Scale Gate'
Only a day out of their fight in Arizona, Oliveira and 'the highlight' on the scale to weigh for their fight, which resulted in one of the biggest controversies of Oliveira's career.
'Do Bronx' got on the scale and weighed at 155.5 pounds, half a pound above the limit of the championship. As a result of his narrow weightmiss, Oliveira was stripped of his title and at UFC 274 only Gaethje was eligible to win the title.
The situation was “scale gate” dubbed as several other hunters who participated on the card, complained about weight missers, claiming that they were on weight when testing their weight on the 'practice scales' the night before their fighting.
Despite the broad complaints, there was nothing that the vice president of the regulatory affairs of the UFC, Marc Ratner could do and they continued to strip Oliveira from the title.
After such a controversial structure of the fight, 'Do Bronx' once again entered the UFC-Oachthoek with a chip on his shoulder and went up again a masterful version, while he completed Gaethje in the first round.
“Hey, something is missing here, the champion has a name and it is Charles Oliveira of the Bronx,” said Oliveira after the fight.
Charles Oliveira's History
'Do Bronx' missed the weight for the first time in 2012, prior to his featherweight fight against Cub Swanson, which resulted in the fight that was changed to catch weight.
Only two years later, Oliveira was removed from his planned fight against Nick Lentz after missing the weight and then got sick.
Later that year he was matched against Jeremy Stephens and again missed the limit of 146 pound featherweight.
Then in 2015 Oliveira weighed 150.5 pounds for his featherweight fight against Myles Jury, before missing the biggest margin of his career a year later against Ricardo Lamas.
