Paris Saint-Germain is in a second Champions League final and beats four Premier League clubs en route, and are now determined to claim a first European cup when they are facing Inter Milan in Munich
Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser al-Khelaifi insists that Luis Enrique is the best coach in the world but his work is 'not ready'.
Enrique has now seen four Premier League clubs after the French champions had defeated Arsenal to reach the Champions League final. PSG, Die Manchester City defeated in the competition phase, while he also conquered Liverpool and Aston Villa in the knockout phase, are on course to win the trophy for the first time in the history of the club.
Al-Khelaifi insists that their brilliant campaign is no more than Enrique's attacking vision, but warned that they should complete the job against Inter Milan in Munich to deliver the club's ultimate ambition.
Al-Khelaifi said: “It's not finished yet.
“That's what he said …” I want to play offensive football “and that's what he told us and he did it. And he is the best coach in the world.”
PSG only squeezed in the knockout phase after beating Brest in the play-offs after inconsistent performance and results in the competition phase.
Al-Khelaifi admitted that this season was about building a young team minus the superstars from the past and to reach the last resources they are well in front of schedule. They reached the 2020 Champions League final, but lost from Bayern Munich in an empty stadium in Covid Times.
He added: “So this year the dream was to build the team, to build a young team for the future. That was our goal. If you told me that the goal was in a final, it would not be true. If you had told me after three games in the group phase that would be our goal … It was just to qualify and then we did it through the play.
“But I think what I felt and I smelled something between the players, the team spirit, the coach, the sports advisor, the fans, everyone that something is special here.
“This is the first final we play with our supporters, with our fans. We will be there. So it's something very, very special. Inter Milan is a fantastic team.
“They have been in the final for two years now. So we know the danger of Inter Milan. I would like to congratulate them to reach the final. We are now in the final and you know that everything can happen.”
