Mason Mount says it was worth the wait to finally ignite his career in Manchester United, after his two goals outside the bank against Athletic Club secured their place in the Europa League final.
Mount's United career has been destroyed by injury since he signed from Chelsea in 2023 for a first £ 55 million and has threatened to fade completely, but this performance, on what was undoubtedly his best evening for the club, is perhaps the turning point.
United was 1-0 down and struggled in Old Trafford-Haar 3-1 on aggregated-to-Ten Mount after an hour with Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo to change the game, books in the final against Tottenham in Bilbao with a 7-1 win over the two legs.
Mount's Equalizer, a sharp bend and finish in the box, started a late flurry of goals, four that came in less than 20 minutes, such as Casemiro and Rasmiro Hojlund scored before the second of the midfielder, an attempt from the half -line with his weaker foot.
Asked if it was his best 20 minutes in a man from Utd, Mount told TNT Sports: “Yes, sure. It has been difficult since I have been here, I have had the injuries and setbacks.
“I knew something good would come. I went on, worked hard on training and tried to stay positive, and when I had the chance, it paid off.”
“It was too long,” he added, referring to his wait for a feeling like this on a big night.
Mount, who had never scored in Old Trafford for United, became the first player in the club who scored twice in a European knockout match since David Beckham against Real Madrid in 2003.
“The crowd has been incredible,” he said. “They stayed with us. For me personally, my first goals here at Old Trafford, so a special evening, one that I've been waiting for a long time.
“To go back to Bilbao, a special moment for us, and we now want to end strong.”
“Moments like these are worth the wait,” Mount later wrote on social media with an image of him to celebrate his goal for the old Trafford -Mixte. “Back to Bilbao, Reds!”
The moment of Mount was enjoyed by the whole man Utd Squad, nothing more than his head coach Ruben Amorim, who is always a strong proponent of his since the middle of the season through sport, despite his injury.
Asked for his smile when Mount scored, Amorim said in his press conference after the game: “Not only me, if you look at the couch, that's the best feeling as a coach.
“If you look at the other boys on the couch, they are so happy for Mason Mount because everyone in that dressing room sees Mason Mount do everything he can to be available.
“He is really a good player and you can see that both goals are really good goals. So I think that not only Mason Mount, not only me, but also the teammates, they were so happy for him.”
Amorim spoke with TNT -Sport: “Mason Mount, I am so happy for him, he is such a player. He works very hard. He has quality.
'If you see that kind of man, works hard every day. If you have this type of player, you just want to help them.
“He's perfect for that [No 10] Position Because he can be a midfielder, he can run like a winger, he can play with his back to the goal. “
