David Ornstein, the renowned journalist of the Athletic, performed his usual Q&A with fans and shared the newest about the transfer of Manchester United focuses on Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap.
Cunha to United – Has the Buzz broken off?
“I don't think the rumors have disappeared,” Ornstein explained. “It's just that it is unlikely that there is real progress before the end of the season – we will have to wait for Cunha's release clause at Wolves to become active in the summer window.”
Once the release clause has been activated and personal conditions have been agreed, it is expected that United will complete the transfer. It is important that their qualification for European competition will not influence the deal next season.
If United wins the Europa League, does their spits priority shift from Delap to someone else? Are there goals they can leave for financial limitations?
“Our understanding is that Manchester United has already protected the funds for their primary goals – Delap and Cunha – without European qualification,” said Ornstein.
He added that the situation of Delap is more complex than Cunha's: “There are many clubs interested in Delap, and he has not yet decided his future.”
Regarding other potential goals, Ornstein called uncertainty about the future of Viktor Gyökeres. In the meantime, a movement for Victor Osimhen is considered unlikely for salary requirements and personality problems.
Can United pursue a traditional no. 9 and run to players such as Cunha or Mbeumo?
“If they don't have a good no. 9 countries, players such as Cunha, Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Southampton's Che Adams were all on the radar of the club,” Ornstein noted.
“It is still very early in the process, so it is difficult to give a definitive answer at this stage.
