Jamie Carragher said he was “surprised” by how much was heard when Trent Alexander-Arnold came with Arsenal on Sunday during the 2-2 draw of Liverpool.
Earlier this week Alexander-Arnold confirmed that he would leave the club at the end of the season, with a switch to Real Madrid, which would be expected to be confirmed in the summer.
The international of England replaced Conor Bradley in Anfield in the 67th minute and received a hostile reception from the Anfield -Modified when he went his way to the field.
Alexander-Arnold also played a role in the equalizer of Mikel Merino and played the Arsenal man aside after the strike by Martin Odegaard was tipped on the post by Alisson Becker.
The 26-year-old completed nine passes in the last third during his cameo appearance, a totally single was improved by Mohamed Salah (18) and Dominik Szoboszlai (11).
“That is the story of the game. That is what we will be talking about after the game, and the back pages of each newspaper,” said Carragher when he spoke to Sky Sports.
“I am surprised how much. For me I do not believe that a player turns on that red shirt that continues to win trophies, must be booed.
“It's not for me to hunt one of your own players while they play.”
In recent years, Alexander-Arnold has been an integral part of the success of Liverpool and is lifting eight major awards, including this year's Premier League title.
He has registered more assists (64) than any other defender in the Premier League history, four more than teammate Andy Robertson in second place.
Leighton Baines (85) is the only player who has more target contributions with defenders in the English top flight than Alexander-Arnold (82).
Alexander-Arnold has also created 514 opportunities in the Premier League, of which 194 came from Set pieces. Only Baines (635 and 232 respectively) has more.
The full-back has two more games, against Brighton and Crystal Palace before he leaves, and Carragher believes that manager Arne Slot should leave Alexander-Arnold.
“That [booing him] Was a step too far. That could be his last version, which might be the right one, because Liverpool does not need a circus, “Carragher added.
“If you are frustrated by Trent, sing the name of Conor Bradley or Steven Gerrard.
“Boo is not a player, because it opens you for criticism from supporters up and down through the country about Liverpool supporters.”
Carragher continued to refer to comments from Alexander-Arnold earlier in the season, where he revealed his ambitions to win the Ballon d'Or-Trophy one day.
Alexander-Arnold ranked the winning of the prestigious individual distinction over winning the Champions League, a trophy he has already won with Liverpool in 2018-19.
“Trent was asked if he would like to win the Champions League or the Ballon d'Or and he said Ballon d'Or – Even if he thinks so, this is not the correct answer for a local player in Liverpool,” Carragher continued.
“The club must come first. Liverpool has shown supporters that he is not a player who thinks more about the club than he is.
“He is a brand. He is a great football player and that is why Real Madrid wants him.”
