Chelsea could CHOOSE whether to play in UCL or UEL under bonkers Uefa ruling

A Bonkers rule means that Chelsea could choose between playing in the Champions League or the Europa League next season.

The blues will rule for free if they win the Europa Conference League (UEL) and qualify for the Champions League (UCL) by ending in the top five in the Premier League.

Enzo Maresca's side face Spanish outfit real betis in Europe's third low -final in Wroclaw, Poland on 28 May.

The winners of the Conference League, together with getting a trophy and £ 5.9 million in prize money, deserve a qualifying place for the Europa League of the following season.

Things become a bit more complicated if the same team also earns a place in the Champions League through their domestic finish.

As favorites Chelsea win in Wroclaw and end up in the top five in the Prem, set the rules that the club can “choose” between UEL and UCL.

It is clear that it is extremely unlikely that a team like Chelsea will choose something other than the glamor and wealth of the UCL, because qualifications become £ 70 million if they make the last.

But the “Clause Clause” exists to cover a team of one of Europe's lower competitions that win the Conference League.

If the smaller Minnow side occupies their domestic UCL spot in the qualifying rounds, they would not be guaranteed to play in the UEL.

So if the club feels that the UCL League phase is difficult due to qualification, they can choose to take the automatic place in the UEL phase that is earned by winning the conference competition.

There is no change in the allocation to give the winners of the Conference League a place in the UEL if they are eligible for other European competitions.

And if Chelsea both do, they will accidentally help another Prem team compete in Europe next season.

If the side of Maresca Betis defeated and ends at a Europa League spot in the competition, they will create an empty lock because they cannot qualify twice.

Chelsea is currently at the UCL places in the Fifth in the Prem, but is confronted with hard competitions against Manchester United and colleague European Chasers Nottingham Forest.

The premium earned five places in the UCL next season by UEFA's point-scoring UEFA coefficient when Arsenal Real Madrid beat 3-0 in their first quarter-final stage.

Every season UEFA calculates the coefficient based on the results of the competition clubs in the three European competitions.
