RMC: PSG demands €98M from Mbappé, claims delay strategy caused damages

According to a new report from RMC Sports, PSG stated during a hearing on Monday that Kylian Mbappé had to pay the club of € 98 million compensation because of its “delaying tactics”, of which they claim that the club has caused financial damage.

PSG appeared before the court for lifting a freezing of € 55 million assets that Mbappé had obtained in April, which represented unpaid wages and bonuses. The Judicial Court of Paris granted Mbappé the right to secure these funds pending resolution in other legal proceedings.

However, the legal team of PSG argued that Mbappé “does not sufficiently prove the existence of the fault or any threat of recovery.” Lawyer Thomas Azzaro said that PSG had already filed a separate lawsuit to destroy the order of the LFP -Legal Committee, which means that the Mbappe club has to pay € 55 million. That case will be discussed on 26 May – On the same day the court will make a decision about the current procedural issue.

PSG has also submitted a counterclaim of € 98 million, in which lawyer Renaud Semerdjian AFP told: “Mbappé owed Paris Saint-Germain money due because his delay strategy has caused the club damage.” He added: “We don't want to reclaim € 98 million – it is to show that if he owes our money, his own claim has no legal grounds.”

In reality, only € 14 million of the € 55 million are effectively frozen, because banks are reportedly not cooperating. Mbappé's lawyer Thomas Clay has fired back: “Where is the money? The grabbing of funds is not easy – refusing to work with the banks.”

He added: “We are against a sovereign state-Qatar-Die continuously finances this club. When the accounting is opaque and when we know how difficult it is to deal with a state, there is a risk of non-recovery.”

Clay warned that the pronunciation will be closely monitored: “If you consider that sports arbitrators are not real jury members, the entire sports system will collapse.”

Although legal fights between the two parties have continued within sports institutions, those authorities have so far said that they cannot enforce the decisions of Pro players because of the continuous civil lawsuits.

PSG also claimed that she and Mbappé reached an oral agreement in the summer of 2023 that the player apart from his end-of-the-class payments to maintain the club's financial health. Mbappé's lawyer rejected that claim as 'a fantasy'.
