Rangers job ‘is not a project’ warns Barry Ferguson after rookie boss Davide Ancelotti is linked with Ibrox post

Barry Ferguson has warned that the Rangersbaan is 'no project' after the club was connected to a potential Rookie -Baas in Davide Ancelotti.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Ancelotti, currently assistant to his father Carlo in Real Madrid, is a leader for the Ibrox -vacancy, with claims that he was approached by the club.

Rangers quickly played every idea that the 35-year-old was offered the job, but has not refused that he will be taken into consideration.

Ancelotti has served as NO2 for his father in the Bernabeu, as well as earlier spells together in Bayern Munich, Napoli and Everton.

He has not shocked his own front line experience as a manager, with many Rangers fans to see his name associated with the hunt of their club on a new permanent boss.

Interim manager Ferguson admitted on Tuesday that he knew little about Ancelotti Junior, but emphasized the need for every potential new boss to run the ground next season and immediately win.

Asked about the links to Ancelotti, Ferguson said: 'I know nothing about him, if I am honest.

“I know he is an assistant of his father and his father is one of the best managers. There will always be speculation, there has been speculation since I came in.

'I have no problem with that. That is just the way it works here in the west of Scotland. All I can do is just concentrate on it that I do the work as well as possible and we will see where it brings us.

'One thing I will say is that it is not a project. You have to start winning immediately. That's it.

'You don't get time here. You have the summer to build a new team, how you want to build it.

'You have to go to a very fast start and you have to make sure you win as many games as possible.

'This club is built on winning and we have to start winning. That has been the problem here and that is clear why there are a number of managers who have lost their job over the years.

'So Rangers must go back to challenging and winning trophies. That is for everyone to see.

'I do not hide anything and I am sure that they, with the changes that have been made, [the prospective new owners] Realize that. The supporters realize that.

'I certainly realize it and it is a big job – but it is also a brilliant task to have. There is a lot of work to do and hopefully everything will start to move.

“Hopefully we will soon see what will happen.”

Sources at Rangers have urged that any suggestion that Ancelotti is about to take on the job wide of the goal.

The recruitment process is still in the early stages and will begin to move as soon as the new sports director Kevin Thelwell takes on his duties at the end of the season.

Mail Sport -Columnist Simon Jordan believes that it would be a huge gamble for Rangers to appoint Ancelotti, given his lack of managing experience experience.

Jordan said on Talksport: 'The question is not whether Davide Ancelotti has the pork chops to take a management responsibility, but whether he has the pork chops to help Rangers overcome Celtic. That is the debate that Rangers must have with themselves. '

Former Crystal Palace – chairman Jordan continued: 'If I am Rangers – and I have not interviewed the guy – I do not know how charismatic and what his letters are.

'We have seen people who have received really important responsibilities, Paul Clement [previous assistant to Ancelotti at Chelsea and Bayern Munich].

'He is a great coach, he worked under great management at large football clubs. Stick it in the dugout as a manager, not so much.

'Rangers, why? Why would you take this point? Unless he is so impressive, and I do believe that the only subscription you have on something is the login details of what he did before.

“I don't understand the first appointment. You take a risk, but this is Rangers, and all challenges at Rangers have brought them to this point, where the board is in disorder, the property changes, the expectations of the club have to rise.

“You should definitely have parachutes in someone who is going to go:” See that other guy there in the other (Celtic) dugout, I can deal with him, as long as you give me some resources, I can match him, close to pounds to pound, and I can get where you have to be. “

In the meantime, Ferguson expects some clarity about the future plans of the club in the coming days in terms of how things go beyond the summer.

Speaking while Rangers is preparing to organize Dundee United on Ibrox on Wednesday evening, he added: 'In terms of the update about myself, look, that remains private.

'But I am sure you will see in the course of the coming days, hopefully there will be a little movement because I have mentioned a number of times, it has to be moving in terms of whom the manager becomes because of the previous season.

'There are players without a contract, players who went back, etc. So hopefully we will be clear in the coming days what will happen.

'There have been no discussions in terms of what will happen to myself.

“What I know is that things are starting to move and hopefully, as I said, in the coming days or weeks, we will really be clear how the club is progressing.”
