Wounded Matildas Captain Sam Kerr remains a 'camp by Camp' proposition and could still try to complete the preseason with Chelsea before he returns to the international struggle.
Interim Baas Tom Sermanni has also given the expected new coach Joe Montemurro a ringing approval while preparing for what his last two games are probably at the helm.
Kerr has not played at any level since she torn her ACL in a Chelsea training camp in January 2024.
She was called in Matildas Camp in a training capacity in March and April, but was not selected for upcoming friendly matches against Argentina in Melbourne and Canberra.
“Sam follows pretty well, but she is not only ready to come in and play,” said Sermanni.
'From our situation it is a camp of the camp of the camp.
“Of course they are now at the end of their season for Chelsea, so now they will look back at her and be ready for the preseason.”
The partner of Kerr, the American international Kristie Mewis, recently gave birth to the first child of the couple, son Jagger.
Sermanni said he and Kerr 'constant in communication', while the Matildas had a physiotherapist in London 'a considerable amount of work' with the striker, in combination with Chelsea.
With the interior season of the blues, Kerr was able to return to play via the Matildas.
But more likely, she will go back to full pre-season training with her club to first build her loads.
'That is one of the scenarios, and probably not a bad one. I think that will depend on Sam and Chelsea, “said Sermanni.
'So it could be that Chelsea says, well, if – and I say or – that Sam feels she is ready, and they feel that she is ready to come back for our next window, or they think:' Well, it would be good for you to get some playing time. That can happen.
'If, on the other hand, they say, watch, we just want her to take on the preparation this time, so that will be the start of the preseason, she is ready to go.
“That, I would say, probably a more likely scenario. “But again, that's something I can't answer specifically.”
Sermanni will take the lead over this camp, but Lyon -Baas Montemurro is expected to officially register as the new coach afterwards.
“Joe would be fantastic in the work,” said Sermanni.
“He knows the players intimate. He has been coached at the highest level for a long time. And he has been extremely successful.
“There will be no problem that Joe comes in and the work does very, very well.”
