Tadeo Allende scored twice to help Inter Miami from behind to earn a 3-3 draw against the earthquakes of San Jose in MLS on Wednesday.
Miami had led after a very early goal, but was then forced to overcome two shortages, although neither teams could find a late winner.
Maximiliano Falcon scored after just 34 seconds to let the ball roll for Miami; From a short corner routine, Jordi Alba dived into the box for a nice first time and Falcon nodded home.
San Jose, however, found a level only 91 seconds later. Cristian Arango, who was wounded later in the first half, put pressure on Oscar Ustari after Miami played a free kick back, and locked Cristian Espinoza on a loose clearance to go up the striker, who threw home from close up.
Lionel Messi then shot widely, but the earthquakes were given the following goal in the 37th minute, with Beau Leroux who came on the short clearance of Sergio Busquets to send half a volley along Ustari.
Messi and Alba have linked well to set up the equalizer of Miami, with the latter a low cross in the six-year box fizzing for Allende to the gun from close up for 44 minutes.
However, the herons were at the back of the break, with the precise low finish of Ian Harkes in the top left corner in the fourth minute of the stop time and San Jose give a 3-2 lead.
Allende parity restored seven minutes in the second half and met replacement replacement Baltasar Rodriguez's Lage Cross to turn a first shot past Daniel.
Espinoza did not see a goal after the hour rejected when Ousseni Bouda set him up from an offside position. Messi also saw a late chance blocked before Hernan Lopez made a final attempt, just wide of the post for San Jose while the loot was shared.
There was late drama after the whistle when Messi broadcast his frustrations with the referee about the decision not to grant him free kick, in which members of San Jose's coaching staff who took him away from the civil servant to prevent him from being shown a red card for different opinions, just after he was booked.

Data Debrief: Miami is short
After their biggest defeat ever with Messi suffered against Minnesota United on the weekend, it was not entirely the bounceback that Javier Mascherano had hoped.
However, they made a lightning -fast start, where they had the fastest goal in MLS this season, and avoided the defeat in their last seven league games when taking the lead.
Arango, however, led to San Jose, so he set his ninth goal in MLS this period and scored for the third game in a row. He could be a big miss if the injury is serious.
Miami certainly had their chances and created 2.35 expected goals (XG) of 10 shots. San Jose had 13 attempts, although only 1.28 XG created when they showed their finish.
