Conceicao not dwelling on AC Milan’s ‘lacking’ performance in Coppa Italia final

Sergio Conukicao believes that the last defeat of AC Milan Coppa Italia against Bologna this season reflected from their struggles and emphasized their need to look ahead.

Milan lost 1-0 in Rome on Wednesday in the showpiece, thanks to a second half goal from Dan Ndoye, who yielded the rebound.

The Rossoneri have now only won one of their last seven Coppa Italia Finals, with that victory back in 2002-03. This was their third attempt to conquer the trophy since.

The defeat may have sealed a bittersweet – mostly bitter – season for Conukicao and Milan, whose long silver lining lifted the Supercoppa Italiana in January.

Milan is eighth in the Serie A at 60 points, four on Drift by Juventus in the fourth, with two more games to play.

“It was a hard -fought match, very competitive, where every game could be decisive. I think this will reflect our season,” Confeicao told Sport Mediaset.

“I am disappointed in losing a final and the possibility to win silverware, in a difficult season with a very difficult environment.

“At the end of the day I have to congratulate Bologna because they played their game well and we were missing something.”

Last Friday, Milan had beat Bologna 3-1 in the Serie A, where Santiago Gimenez and Christian Pulisic led a late comeback to seal all three points.

That had been a fourth consecutive victory in all competitions for Conukicao's side, while it had also been a third consecutive loss for the men of Vincenzo Italiano.

Milan had 10 attempts in Friday's victory, with five on goal, because they collected 1.7 expected goals (XG). On Wednesday they had seven shots and they only tested Lukasz Skorupski twice (1.5 xg).

But Conceicao says he could not explain why the performances were so different this time.

“There are 10,000 things that you go through your head in these situations.

Concuyo is under increasing pressure, after he is not based on his early success with Milan, when he won the Supercoppa Italiana in just his second game.

When asked later in the press conference about his future at the club, the 50-year-old avoided the question.

“The cup is lost, there is nothing else to do than look out worthy. And then we will talk about it,” he said.

“At the moment there are thoughts about the game, the choices made and other things. I have not been to football for two days, now my head is just trying to understand what did not work and what else could have been done.”
