Simeone takes responsibility for Atletico’s poor away form after Osasuna loss

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone took full responsibility for the recent struggles of his team on the road after Osasuna had again created a miserable journey journey on Thursday.

Atletico fell on a surprise loss with the Estadio El Sadar and has won only one of their last six in LaLiga, so they don't score in their last three.

Although Los Colchoneros has already secured Champions League football for next season, they still have to guarantee third place, with Athletic Bilbao only three points behind them after they won 2-0 on Thursday at Getafe.

“I think we played better today than we did against Alaves and Las Palmas, but it is clear that the coach finds no way to inspire the players to perform at their best,” said Simeone reporters after the defeat of Athleti.

“I look inside. It is my responsibility that they cannot show from home what they do when we play at home.”

Atleti saw uninspired against Osasuna, who are only outside the top eight on goal difference after the main goals of Alejandro Catena and Ante Budimir.

The visitors corresponded to the nine shots of Osasuna and won the expected goals (XG) battle with 1.28 to 0.58, where Alexander Sorloth alone passed four chances with a total XG value of 0.9.

“From the beginning it was clear that we had opportunities to take the lead, but we didn't do that,” Simeone added, who was resisting those missed opportunities.

“They had a set piece that came close, and at the next game, where we could have done more, they benefited from their height to score.

“In the second half we checked the game, although we have not made any dangerous opportunities as we had in the first.

“Budimir scored a great goal and we are attached to this result.”
