Liverpool target Frimpong’s farewell message as boss left ‘let down’ by exit

Jeremie Frimpong is strongly connected to Liverpool as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold and will hope to leave Bayer Leverkusen in a good tone after he has left his former club frustrated

Jeremie Frimpong could soon say goodbye to Bayer Leverkusen, enthusiastically enthusiastically about a deal for the right back. His conversations are reportedly started when the Reds Mull about whether he should activate a release clause in his contract.

The 24-year-old will certainly strive to leave Germany on a positive foot after he has left his former club Celtic under a cloud. After he shone in front of the Scottish giants, he left in January 2021.

He had offered a new contract to stay in Celtic Park, but decided to reject his switch to the Bundesliga in a deal with a report of £ 11.5 million. Despite that reimbursement, the Celtic boss Neil Lennon was not the best satisfied.

When he spoke at the time, he said: “Yes, I feel a bit abandoned because we had the feeling that we could continue and we offered him a new deal that would have held him here for two or three years, but it was up to the player's personal ambition.

“Whether that is in the right way for him is still too viewed. For us, however, from a business point of view – and perhaps also from the point of view of football – when the spirit of a player is determined in this way, it is very difficult to bring him around again.

“It didn't come as a surprise at all. This has been in the shift in recent months. We offered the players' talks for a new deal a few months ago, but he refused and made it clear that he wanted to leave, despite our efforts to keep him.

“We have received a very robust offer for him and, after talking about it in detail, we think that this is best for the club in the future. Of course we now want to bring in a right back to play in that position.”

To his honor, Frimpong expressed his deep affection for Celtic and explained his reasons to pursue an exit in his farewell message. He wrote on social media: “I want to thank all my teammates for their help, the Gaffer for his confidence and the Celtic fans for their love. I will be grateful for Celtic forever and I wish you the very best for the future.

“This is a great opportunity to play in one of the best European competitions. I am really enthusiastic about the Bundesliga and especially about this club.

“Bayer Leverkusen recently played regularly in the Champions League and the Europa League. They showed how ambitious they are internationally, not least in the two games against Rangers last year. I really love the attacking, fast and technical way of playing and I hope I can help the team soon.”
