Real Madrid and Barcelona are the most successful clubs in the history of Spanish football – but how do the trophy cupboards of the couple relate?
They were among the 10 original founders of the Spanish League and Barcelona won the inaugural edition of La Liga in 1929.
Madrid later settled as an important force in both Spanish and European football in the 1950s and 1960s and at that time won 11 La Liga titles and six European cups.
Los Blancos enjoyed a different period of unparalleled dominance in La Liga in the late 1980s when they won each league title between 1986 and 1990.
But the return from Johan Cruyff to Barcelona as a manager heralded the birth of the 'Dream Team' that won four consecutive LA Liga titles between 1991 and 1994.
While Madrid spent the early 2000s putting together a superstar team that was better known as the Galacticos, Barcelona stated trust in their academy.
The will of Carles Puyol, Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi helped to form one of the largest club sides of all time when Barcelona won six La Liga titles and four championships between 2005-06 and 2014-15.
But Madrid has also won their fair share of large trophies in recent years, including three champions competitions in a row between 2016 and 2018.
Los Blancos continued to raise silverware, even after the departure of their top goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo of all time, in which a 14th and 15th European Cup was won in 2022 and 2024.
But a period of persistent domestic dominance continues to miss-barcelona's 2024-25 LA Liga title Triumph means that they have still not retained a league title since long ago in 2008.
We have looked at the statistics to see how their two trophy cabinets relate. Note: Both clubs have won the Copa Eva Duarte and the Copa de la Liga, but we did not admit them because the competitions had a limited lifespan.
As the statistics show, Madrid is simply at the top and he has lifted five more trophies than their rivals. They also have the record for most La Liga titles, the most champions competitions and the most FIFA club world cups.
Barcelona still has a trophy pull that most clubs can only dream of and they keep the record for the most Copa del Reys, Supercopas de Espana, UEFA Cup winners and fairs of intercities.
