Mason Greenwood arrived for about £ 26 million in Marseille from Manchester United last summer and is impressed by the goal, and so far scored 26 goals – but there have been rumors that he wants to return to England
Marseille star Mason Greenwood claimed that he wants to stay in the club next season to participate in their Champions League campaign -despite reports, the former Manchester United Forward was able to leave the French club. Greenwood enjoyed a successful first term with the Ligue 1 side after scoring 19 goals in the top division of France.
Greenwood was signed by Marseille last summer for around £ 26 million after a one -year loan spell with La Liga Side Getafe. It came after he was frozen from the Manchester United team after allegations of attempted rape, abuse and controlling and compelling behavior against the striker – with the charges that were fallen by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.
Since then, the 23-year-old has been trying to rebuild his career and has largely been a success in France because of his goals, which makes the team eligible for the Champions League next season while closing on a 2nd placed finish behind Rivals PSG.
Recent reports claimed that Greenwood was “to the desire” for a return to the Premier League, with two unnamed clubs that weigh a movement for the English international.
However, the man himself has urged him to be happy in France and feels “at home” in Marseille and tells a press conference that he is planning to compete with his teammates in Europe next season.
“I hope to be here next year for the Champions League,” Greenwood said at a rare press conference. “All other players tell me that the stadium is something special. I think it has been a very positive season, we have achieved our goal.
“I feel at home here. I recently had a baby here with my girlfriend. Not many people experience things like that here and with all my teammates and coaches I want to thank them all.”
De Telegraaf has also reported that figures close to Marseille accept that it is possible that they can accept a transfer for Greenwood in the coming two seasons.
Although Greenwood is impressed by the goal, he has frustrated fans and manager Roberto de Zerbi about his work percentage. There were even rumors that teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg asked him to be removed from the team and the Italian said earlier that he was expecting more from the player.
“Nobody can respect him anymore than me,” said the Zerbi earlier this year. “But that doesn't change anything: I expect more from him. He has to do more, because what he is currently showing is not enough.
“If he wants to reach his ambition to become a champion, he must be more consistent, sacrifice more and be determined.”
