Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca claimed that unrealistic requirements were placed on his side after a Nervy 1-0 victory over Manchester United de Blues pushed to the qualification of the Champions League on Friday.
Marc Cucurella went in the only goal 20 minutes from time to lift Chelsea in the top four of the Premier League.
The victory in Nottingham Forest on the last day of the campaign on 25 May will at least guarantee a top five finish that will see Chelsea return to the Champions League after an absence of two years.
The men of Maresca can also end the season with a trophy if they beat real betis in the UEFA Conference League.
In three years, Chelsea spent more than £ 1 billion ($ 1.33 billion) on new signing sessions since an American consortium Roman Abramovich replaced as owners of the club.
The majority of that investment, however, is a splash on promising young talent and Maresca believes that his party should get more patience.
“For me, the problem is that in general you, the press, still think that Chelsea is the same Chelsea as years ago. It's not the same,” said Maresca.
“Tonight (Nicolas) Jackson was suspended, we played with Tyrique (George) and six players from the Academy (in the team).
“Years ago, if (Didier) Drogba was out, Diego Costa was playing or Fernando Torres. This is a completely different Chelsea.
“I can understand that people have difficulty seeing that. But we are in the right direction, hopefully we can bring the club where the club deserves to be.”
